Scrum Master

This is a remote position.

The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation acts as the Government of Alberta’s primary center for modern digital public services. Working in cross-functional agile teams, DDD partners across provincial ministries to modernize citizen-facing services, migrate workloads, and implement high-reliability digital platforms.

As a DevOps Specialist, you will work across 2 to 3 concurrent digital transformation initiatives. You will design, automate, and operate CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and cloud infrastructure. Your core focus will be eliminating manual toil, standardizing release patterns, hardening security postures, and enabling high-velocity software delivery across hybrid cloud and on-premise environments.

Requirements

1. Mandatory ("Must-Have") Qualifications

To pass initial screening, a candidate must meet every minimum year requirement:

• Command Line Interfaces (CLI): 4 years (command execution, file system traversal).
  

• Scripting Tools: 4 years (specifically PowerShell or equivalent shell scripting).
  

• Cloud Platforms: 3 years across AWS (EC2, S3, RDS) and GCP (Cloud services, BigQuery).
  

• Security Awareness & Secrets Management: 3 years (credentials, secrets handling, basic infrastructure security).
  

• Access Tools: 3 years (SSH clients, Remote Desktop / RDP).
  

• Technical Documentation: 3 years (documenting issues, operational procedures, and solutions).
  

• Research, Analysis & Problem Solving: 3 years.
  

• AI & Agentic Tooling: 2 years (leveraging generative AI and agentic tooling for operational automation and executive-grade deliverables).
  

• Networking Tools & Concepts: 1 year (DNS lookups, traceroutes, load balancing).
  

• Attestation: Signed confirmation of No Conflict of Interest.
  

2. Scored ("Nice-to-Have") Qualifications

Evaluated under the 20% qualifications weighting:

• Enterprise CI/CD Pipelines: 3 years in large-scale enterprise environments.
  

• Developer Tools: 3 years with VS Code or Visual Studio 2019+.
  

• DevOps Delivery Support: 2 years supporting continuous delivery for custom-built solutions.
  

• Hybrid Cloud & Containers: 2 years designing and deploying applications using Red Hat OpenShift / hybrid cloud.
  

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): 2 years with Terraform.
  

3. Operational & Delivery Requirements (Scope of Work)

• Release Automation: Implement zero/low-downtime deployment patterns, reusable CI/CD templates, and support limited-availability rollouts (Alpha/Beta).
  

• Quality & Test Automation: Build test plans, scenarios, and automated test suites (integration, performance/load, and security scans).
  

• Observability: Configure telemetry, logging, and application monitoring tools.
  

• Database Maintenance: Manage schema migrations, database upgrades, automated backups, and recovery procedures.
  

• Collaboration Tools: Proficient with GitHub Actions and Microsoft Teams.
  

• Three (3) References: Listed in order, starting with the most recent client/employer.
