JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Code Compliance Technician identifies and removes graffiti and illegal signs; provides educational and ordinance information to property owners regarding graffiti and illegal sign violations; and schedules, delivers, inspects, maintains, and tracks tools for the Tool Sharing Program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Â
- Identify, photograph, and remove graffiti using approved methods, safety guidelines, and materials.Â
- Determine the best method of graffiti abatement based on circumstances and surface materials.Â
- Perform administrative duties including emails, case documentation, graffiti abatement forms, reports, and PowerPoint presentations.Â
- Enter and update complaints.Â
- Operate gas‑powered and mechanical equipment using solvent/chemical products such as paint and cleaners.Â
- Identify, photograph, and remove illegal signage from the public right‑of‑way.Â
- Schedule tool deliveries and pickups and confirm reservations with residents.Â
- Track tool availability, usage, and maintenance.Â
- Prioritize daily activities to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.Â
- Operate City vehicles and trailers to travel to various locations.Â

- Work and make decisions independently.Â
- Inspect, test, and perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.Â
- Deploy and remove mosquito‑spraying signage as directed.Â
- Provide waivers, educational materials, and ordinance information to property owners.Â
- Order materials and track expenditures for graffiti removal and equipment maintenance.Â
- Answer questions from the public regarding code issues.Â
- Conduct nuisance abatements using a variety of methods and tools.Â
- Coordinate and facilitate contractor graffiti abatements.Â
- Coordinate tasks with other City departments and outside agencies.Â

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Â
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Â
- Knowledge of small engine and basic mechanical equipment maintenance.Â
- Knowledge of connecting and operating a vehicle with an attached trailer.Â
- Skill in making independent decisions regarding graffiti removal best practices.Â
- Skill in prioritizing, organizing, and managing multiple projects.Â
- Skill in gathering and analyzing information and making recommendations.Â
- Ability to work and make decisions independently.Â
- Ability to learn state and local codes and ordinances relating to graffiti and illegal signage.Â
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Â
- Ability to interact with citizens to explain graffiti abatement procedures.Â
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.Â
- Ability to read labels on a variety of containers.Â
- Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment.Â
- Ability to perform physical tasks including hearing, speaking, climbing, driving, lifting, seeing, squatting, reaching, and walking.Â

- Ability to work weekends, evenings, and after‑hour calls as needed; assignments may rotate based on procedural or legal requirements.Â

Qualifying Education and Experience: Â
- High school diploma or GED required.Â
- Hazmat, chemical safety, or chemical handling certification (or department‑approved equivalent) required within 12 months.Â
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.Â
