Job Description

The Field Service Engineer provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site installation, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. TheĀ FieldĀ Engineer will instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system and serve as company liaison withĀ customerĀ on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. This role may include any aspect of field support, and is not limited to system hardware and software, PCs, and networking/wireless networking.Ā 

Location:Ā Remote Field role servicing customersĀ locatedĀ in New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington D.C., and VirginiaĀ (overnights will be required)

Job Responsibilities:Ā 

  • Perform installations, maintenance, validations, and repairs while ensuring compliance with PerkinElmer’s service standards and key performance indicators.Ā 

  • Engage withĀ customers to understand their analytical workflows and tailor service offerings, including training,Ā support, and upgrades.Ā 

  • Enhance account profitability through efficient service execution and byĀ identifyingĀ revenue opportunities such as billable work, consumables,Ā and service leads.Ā 

  • Maintain assigned assets, including tools, test equipment (MTE), telecommunication equipment, and service parts inventory.Ā 

  • Enhance PerkinElmer’s product quality by proactively reporting improvement opportunities via the quality notification process.Ā 

  • AttendĀ higher level certification through participation in company sponsored training & development offeringsĀ 

  • Complete all administrative tasks, including but not limited to time reporting and assigned training.Ā 

  • Maintain training and compliance inĀ areasĀ of health and safety, security, environmental and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment

Basic Qualification:Ā Ā Ā 

  • Ā BAĀ Bachelor Degree in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline including military experience plusĀ 3Ā years direct experience with repair of laboratory equipment ORĀ 
  • Associate Degree in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline including military experience plusĀ 5Ā years direct experience with repair of laboratory equipment ORĀ 

  • High School Diploma plus 7+ years direct experience with repair of laboratory equipmentĀ 

Ā 

Preferred Qualifications:Ā 

  • Detailed knowledge of analytical equipment, laboratory environment, and/or instrument control softwareĀ 

  • Vendor issued certification on relevant laboratory equipmentĀ 

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices as defined by the Company and/or the customer’s site safety codeĀ 

  • AbilityĀ to travel by air,Ā vehicleĀ and/or other means of transportation as business requires. Travel will vary depending on territory requirements and/or customer base typically up to 50% of the time. (Car, laptop, and phoneĀ are companyĀ provided).Ā 

  • Valid driver’s license and safe motor vehicle operation.Ā

Working Environment:Ā Ā 

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlledĀ environmentsĀ requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) inĀ laboratory.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Job pace may beĀ fastĀ and job completion demands may be high.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of theĀ time.Ā Ā Ā 

  • The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsiteĀ FrequentlyĀ operateĀ on instruments, objects,Ā toolsĀ or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting,Ā stretchingĀ and reachingĀ in order toĀ perform in a service function.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā 

  • Occasionally move orĀ lift upĀ to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).Ā Ā Ā 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability toĀ observeĀ details at close range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focusĀ in order toĀ perform the essential service functions of this position.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā 

  • OccasionallyĀ operatesĀ a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.Ā Ā Ā 

  • EmployeeĀ mayĀ be requiredĀ to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations.Ā Ā Duties may includeĀ identifying, handling, generating, accumulating,Ā storingĀ and labeling hazardous waste.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.Ā Ā 

  • May beĀ requiredĀ to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.Ā 

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $65,000.00Ā to $85,000.00. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will beĀ determinedĀ by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.Ā
