JOB SUMMARY:

To provide patient care and technical skills in the operation of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (MRI) to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes by performing the following duties.

MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:聽聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Contributes to the success of UTMB HealthCare Systems.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Practices proper entries and records in PACS, Epic, and Radiology Information System. Prepares patient for MRI procedure by accurately assessing the patient鈥檚 needs by reviewing MRI safety sheet to ensure patient safety by providing education on the procedure and how to call for assistance if needed.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Accurately enters data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into computer.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Prepares patient for MRI procedure by accurately assessing patient鈥檚 needs and providing patient education.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Operates magnetic resonance imaging scanner for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, and documentation of images, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Demonstrates proper IV skills required for contrast injections on all ages.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Uses power injector properly to ensure safe injection of contrast.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Performs Point of Care testing accurately as required by Contrast Media guidelines (ie. creatinine)

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Reviews images of area being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures and keys in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images. Ensuring all sequences are performed per protocol for interpretation by radiologist.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity and to ensure all components of the exam is billed appropriately by inputting additional charges that may have occurred.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Participates in research projects.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Instructs students on clinical MRI skills.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Applies the profession鈥檚 code of ethics in all aspects of practice.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Practices safety measures in MRI and Environment of Care.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Associates degree or graduate of an accredited radiologic health science program

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 ARRTR or ARMRIT registered

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Two (2) years MRI Tech experience within the last 2 years

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Must have valid BLS certification issued through American Heart Association

EQUIPMENT:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Standard patient care supplies, MRI, and office equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Standard hospital environment. Some lifting, moving, and positioning of patients and equipment.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 May require heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling more than fifty pounds.
