TheĀ Information Security EngineerĀ is responsible forĀ enhancing andĀ maintainingĀ the security that protects Jefferson Countyās data, systems, and networks.Ā Provide expert recommendations and hands on guidance,Ā whileĀ influencingĀ and collaboratingĀ with operational IT teams, law enforcement agencies, and external security organizations to foster a culture adhering toĀ the Confidentiality,Ā Integrity, andĀ AvailabilityĀ principles of information security. EvaluateĀ new technologiesĀ throughout the organization for security concerns, successfully advocating adoption of security principles,Ā maintainingĀ security technologies, and promoting security awareness. Design and implement security solutions, mitigate cybersecurity threats, and ensure compliance with government security policies and regulations.Ā

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Ā
PerformsĀ all duties of a cybersecurity analyst:Ā
Provides cybersecurity support, identification, analysis, issue resolution, and implementation and integration of cybersecurity solutionsĀ
Monitors and evaluates security alerts and analyzes security data toĀ identifyĀ potential threats and vulnerabilitiesĀ Ā
AssistsĀ in conducting routine vulnerability assessments and penetration testingĀ
AssistsĀ in incident identification, analysis, and containment, andĀ theĀ development, maintenance, and implementation of cybersecurity incident response plansĀ
ParticipatesĀ in the configuration and maintenance of security toolsĀ
RecommendsĀ configuration changes and standards to improve security postureĀ
AssistsĀ with required auditing and assessment functions, andĀ in creating and updating security documentation and reportsĀ
AssistsĀ with providing security awareness trainingĀ
Compiles metrics for information security to allow for trending toĀ assistĀ in reviews of current processes,Ā identifyĀ awareness needs, andĀ facilitateĀ measurement for continuous improvementĀ
CollaboratesĀ with senior security team members on various projectsĀ
KeepsĀ current on security technology and security news
ServesĀ as a primary escalation point during incidents, to both aide in mitigation and containment, as well as offer strategic insight and recommendations to strengthen incident response protocols and prevent reoccurrence
Researches, designs, and implements cyber security solutions for organization systems and products thatĀ comply withĀ all applicable security policies,Ā standards, and regulations (e.g., PCI, CJIS, HIPAA)
Works with IT and internal and external business partners to perform in-depth security assessments and risk analyses to ensure that security is factored in the evaluation, selection, installation and configuration process of hardware andĀ software.`Ā
Collaborates with software development teams to ensure secure coding practices are followed.Ā Ā Ā
ProvidesĀ support for user access management and account provisioning.Ā
Analyzes and makes recommendations to improve network,Ā systemĀ and application architectures.Ā
Examines network, server, and application logs toĀ determineĀ trends andĀ identifyĀ security incidents.Ā
AssistsĀ in the review and update of cyber security policies,Ā architecturesĀ and standards.Ā
AssistsĀ in responding to audits, penetrationĀ testsĀ and vulnerability assessments.Ā
MentorsĀ and providesĀ guidance to junior team members.Ā
ResearchesĀ emerging security technologies,Ā threats,Ā vulnerabilities,Ā regulatory changes,Ā and industryĀ trends andĀ best practicesĀ toĀ ensure compliance and proactive security measures.Ā

Minimum Qualifications:Ā Ā
Experience:Ā At leastĀ three (3) yearsĀ of professional, hands-on experience designing, implementing, supporting, or securing IT systems, networks, applications, or cloud environments. Preferred qualifications include five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience.Ā
Education:Ā Bachelorās degree inĀ ComputerĀ Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.Ā
License/Certifications:Ā OSCP, OSEP, GIAC CSEC,Ā CISSP,Ā CISM,Ā CIPMĀ or equivalent preferredĀ

- Broad operating system knowledge, Windows (workstation and Server), Linux, mobile operating systems.Ā
- StrongĀ securityĀ knowledgeĀ to includeĀ firewall,Ā IDS/IPS,Ā web serverĀ security,Ā wireless security,Ā cloud,Ā OT, and cryptography.Ā
- ExperienceĀ designing, implementing, integrating, andĀ maintainingĀ enterprise cybersecurity technologies, including Active EDR, SIEM, database security, and vulnerability management.Ā
- ProficiencyĀ inĀ at least oneĀ scriptingĀ language (e.g.Ā Python,Ā PowerShell)Ā for automation and security monitoring.Ā
