Job Summary
The IOM Apprentice is responsible for accompanying the performance of intraoperative monitoring activities in accordance with the policies set by UMC Health System and the Neuro-monitory department for preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative procedures. Must demonstrate the ability to deviate from established protocols as needed.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Attend and actively participate in on the job training which may include workshops and training with IOM Technician or Supervisor
• Learn to operate and troubleshoot IOM software and equipment
• Communicate and coordinate with reading physician before and during all procedures
• Maintain supplies
• Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities that will enable optimal patient care while performing IOM modalities in surgery
• Store all patient documents used for procedure in the Neuro share drive
• All other assigned duties related to Anesthesia

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree
and
• Documentation of 150 NIOM cases post training
• 30 IOM educational hours or CAAHEP diploma
• Documentation of 100 NIOM cases post training

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Basic Life Skills Certification (BLS)

Skills and Abilities
• Evidence of competency in the following modalities: IONM, somatosensory evoked potentials, spontaneous and evoked electromyography, electroencephalography, and motor evoked potentials
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists
• Ability to read and interpret instructions that may be furnished in written or oral diagram or scheduled form
• High degree of proficiency in specialized EEG and/or evoked potential procedures

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Ability to interact cordially and effectively with all patients of the Neurophysiology Lab. This role will interact with department physicians, residents, anesthesia team, and OR staff

Physical Capabilities
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. There are extended periods of time standing, sitting, or frequent walking. Visual acuity (computers, typing, reading, writing) is required for assigned duties.

Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to indoor temperature changes. Work done intraoperative is performed in a high- risk area for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
