Kundlas Consulting Group is seeking a Junior Financial Analyst to support federal financial management, budget execution, accounting support, reconciliation, reporting, and data analysis activities. This position will assist with reviewing financial documentation, processing transactions, maintaining financial records, monitoring funds, preparing reports, researching discrepancies, and supporting audit-ready documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, organized, and capable of working with financial data in accordance with federal financial management requirements, internal controls, and established procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, public administration, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Entry-level to two years of experience supporting financial analysis, accounting, budget execution, financial reporting, grants, procurement, or administrative financial operations.
- Basic understanding of financial transactions, accounting classifications, funding documentation, account reconciliation, invoice tracking, and budget execution.
- Ability to review financial documents for proper classification, authorization, funding citations, accuracy, and supporting documentation.
- Experience entering, validating, maintaining, or reviewing data within financial-management systems or comparable business platforms.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors, discrepancies, missing documentation, and unusual transactions.
- Ability to prepare routine reports, account summaries, status updates, and financial documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- U.S. citizenship may be required depending on client or contract requirements.
- Ability to pass background checks, suitability requirements, or security clearance requirements, as required by the client or contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience supporting federal financial management, accounting, budget execution, acquisition support, grants management, or program financial operations.
- Familiarity with FBMS or comparable integrated federal financial systems used for accounting, budget execution, acquisition, financial assistance, and enterprise reporting.
- Experience monitoring commitments, obligations, expenditures, disbursements, available balances, and status of funds.
- Experience supporting general ledger reconciliations, subsidiary account reviews, trial balances, invoice tracking, journal entries, corrections, and closeout activities.
- Experience preparing financial-management reports, budget-execution reports, account analyses, financial-status reports, and recurring monthly, quarterly, or year-end reporting.
- Familiarity with federal financial documentation standards, internal controls, audit readiness, data integrity, and stewardship of federal funds.
- Experience supporting financial data calls, management reviews, audits, or internal-control assessments.
- Active or previously held security clearance preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.
- Experience supporting Department of the Interior, FEMA, USACE, DHS, or other federal agency financial-management activities is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Examine financial documents to verify proper accounting classification, authorization, funding citations, and supporting documentation.
- Enter, process, validate, and maintain financial transactions within applicable financial-management systems.
- Support the use of FBMS or comparable integrated federal financial systems used for accounting, budget execution, acquisition, financial assistance, and enterprise reporting.
- Perform routine account reconciliations and compare financial transactions across source documentation and financial-system reports.
- Assist with reconciliation between general ledger and subsidiary account balances and research differences requiring correction or additional review.
- Monitor commitments, obligations, expenditures, disbursements, available balances, and status of funds.
- Compile and summarize budget estimates, historical spending information, financial transactions, and other quantitative financial data.
- Prepare routine financial-management reports, budget-execution reports, account analyses, and financial-status reports.
- Support monthly, quarterly, year-end, and other recurring financial-reporting requirements.
- Analyze financial and statistical data to identify errors, unusual transactions, discrepancies, missing documentation, and emerging spending trends.
- Research financial transactions and assist with resolving accounting and budgetary discrepancies.
- Support authorized adjustments, corrections, journal entries, and other financial actions.
- Assist with trial balances, account reviews, invoice tracking, funding reconciliation, and financial closeout activities.
- Maintain supporting documentation that promotes data integrity, transparency, accountability, auditability, and proper stewardship of federal funds.
- Support responses to financial data calls, management reviews, audits, and internal-control assessments.
- Apply strong quantitative analysis, attention to detail, reasoning, problem solving, written communication, and technical competence when working with financial data.
- Coordinate with internal teams, program offices, accounting staff, budget personnel, and government stakeholders to support accurate and timely financial-management activities.
- Maintain organized electronic records, financial trackers, supporting documentation, reports, and reconciliation files.
- Assist with identifying process improvements that strengthen reporting accuracy, financial controls, documentation quality, and data reliability.
Skills:
The ideal candidate should possess strong junior-level financial analysis and federal financial-management support skills, including financial document review, transaction processing, data validation, account reconciliation, budget execution support, invoice tracking, funding reconciliation, financial reporting, account analysis, and audit-ready documentation. The candidate should be comfortable working with commitments, obligations, expenditures, disbursements, available balances, financial-system reports, general ledger information, subsidiary accounts, journal entries, corrections, trial balances, and closeout documentation. This role requires excellent attention to detail, quantitative analysis, reasoning, problem solving, organization, written communication, data integrity, records management, and the ability to identify errors, discrepancies, missing documentation, and unusual transactions. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, FBMS, or comparable federal financial-management systems is preferred.
