About the Role

Our client, a well-established department store and online retailer in the Vaal Triangle, is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Junior Photographer to join its team in Duncanville, Vereeniging. The business carries a wide range of fashion and lifestyle products and trades both in store and online, so clear, consistent, high-quality product imagery is central to how its customers see and buy its ranges.
This is an ideal next step for an emerging photographer who wants hands-on commercial experience in a fast-paced retail environment, working to a professional standard from day one.

Scope of the Role

The Junior Photographer photographs products for the business’s online and marketing channels, then edits and prepares those images so that every item is presented accurately and consistently. The role works closely with the wider team to keep pace with new stock, product launches and promotional deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities Include
Product photography

• Photograph products to a high professional standard, in line with the business’s set styling and image guidelines
• Set up lighting, backdrops and camera settings to capture products clearly and true to colour
• Maintain accuracy and attention to detail on every shoot – correct item, colour, angles and detail shots

Image editing and preparation

• Edit, clean and enhance product images, including background clean-up, colour correction, retouching and cropping
• Ensure all product images are clear, consistent and high quality across the full range
• Prepare and export images in the required sizes and formats, and name and file them correctly

Workflow and teamwork

• Work efficiently within a fast-paced environment, meeting daily output and turnaround targets
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with the team on shoot priorities, stock movement and deadlines
• Handle product samples with care and keep the shooting area and equipment organised

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12)
• A portfolio showing product, e-commerce or commercial photography (studio, freelance or strong personal work)
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Lightroom, or equivalent editing software
• Sound understanding of camera settings, lighting and composition
• A sharp eye for detail, colour accuracy and visual consistency
• Reliable transport to Duncanville, Vereeniging

Advantageous
 
• A diploma, certificate or short course in photography or visual media
• 6–12 months’ experience in product, fashion or e-commerce photography, including internships or freelance work
• Experience with batch editing and high-volume image workflows
• Basic product styling experience, e.g. flat lays, ghost mannequin or on-model shoots
• Exposure to online store platforms or content management systems
