Job DetailsJob Location: Naval Base Guam McCool EMS - Santa Rita 96540-1054Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolTravel Percentage: Road WarriorJob Category: AutomotivePosition Title: Mobile School Bus Fleet Mechanic  Department: Student Transportation Services (STS) Guam  Reports To: Program Manager  Location: DOWEA Schools Guam  Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt  Position Summary  The Mobile Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the preventive maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of ROY GROUP INTERNATIONAL's school bus fleet, ensuring all vehicles remain safe, reliable, and compliant with federal, local, manufacturer, and contract requirements.  The primary focus of this position is maintaining Type C and Type D school buses, including Special Education (SPED) buses equipped with wheelchair lifts, securement systems, accessibility equipment, and other specialized components. This position performs most maintenance and repairs in the field using a fully equipped mobile service vehicle, minimizing vehicle downtime and supporting uninterrupted transportation services.  The Mobile Fleet Mechanic works closely with Operations and Dispatch to maximize fleet availability while maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance.  Essential Duties & Responsibilities  Fleet Preventive Maintenance (Primary Function)  Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all company school buses in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and established maintenance schedules.  Conduct routine inspections of engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC, tires, driveline components, and cooling systems.  Perform oil and filter changes, lubrication services, fluid replacements, battery maintenance, and other scheduled maintenance.  Monitor fleet condition and recommend preventive repairs before mechanical failures occur.  Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records for each vehicle.  Special Education (SPED) Bus Maintenance  Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair wheelchair lifts and lift operating systems.  Inspect wheelchair securement devices, occupant restraint systems, and accessibility equipment.  Ensure ADA-related equipment remains fully operational and compliant with applicable safety standards.  Perform preventive maintenance and functional testing on all lift systems before vehicles are returned to service.  Coordinate repairs requiring manufacturer-certified service when necessary.  Mechanical Diagnostics & Repairs  Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on diesel-powered school buses.  Repair engines, fuel systems, charging systems, cooling systems, brake systems, steering components, suspension, and HVAC systems.  Utilize electronic diagnostic equipment to identify and troubleshoot vehicle faults.  Complete emergency repairs to minimize service interruptions.  Safety Inspections & Regulatory Compliance  Perform pre-service safety inspections to ensure buses meet all operational and contractual safety requirements.  Conduct DOT, Guam, manufacturer, and company-required inspections.  Identify and immediately address safety deficiencies affecting vehicle operation.  Ensure buses remain compliant with applicable federal, local, and Department of Defense transportation standards.  Mobile Fleet Support  Travel to fleet parking locations, dispatch yards, school sites, and roadside locations to perform maintenance and repairs.  Respond to breakdowns and mechanical emergencies.  Coordinate towing services when repairs cannot be completed on-site.  Inventory & Parts Management  Maintain inventory of commonly used maintenance parts and supplies.  Track parts usage and submit purchase requests as needed.  Maintain service truck tools and equipment in safe working order.  Documentation  Complete maintenance work orders and inspection reports.  Document labor hours, repairs performed, parts used, and vehicle downtime.  Maintain accurate maintenance history for each fleet vehicle.  Safety  Follow OSHA and company safety procedures at all times.  Properly use PPE and maintain a clean, organized mobile work environment.  Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with environmental regulations.  QualificationsPreferred Qualifications  Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Completion of a vocational or technical training program in diesel technology, automotive technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field is preferred.  Experience:  Experience maintaining school buses or commercial passenger buses preferred.  Experience servicing BraunAbility, Ricon, or equivalent wheelchair lift systems preferred.  Knowledge of ADA accessibility equipment, wheelchair securement systems, and occupant restraint devices.  Experience with Cummins diesel engines, Allison transmissions, and air brake systems is highly desirable.    Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $26 to $30 per hour depending on experience; salary exempt Medical Insurance  Retirement  Paid Time Off  Holidays  Other Benefits
