PositionĀ Summary:Ā Ā 

The Department of Radiology at West Virginia University serves as the academic imaging enterprise for WVU Medicine, the state’s flagship academic health system encompassingĀ twenty-fiveĀ hospitals and a rapidly expanding regional network across West Virginia and the surrounding Appalachian region. As part of the WVU School of Medicine, the Department provides comprehensive diagnostic and interventional imaging services while advancing the institution’s missions of clinical care, education, and research. The Department playsĀ a central roleĀ in supporting multidisciplinary care across the health system and serves as a major referral destination for complex imaging and image-guided procedures throughout West Virginia, Western Maryland, Western Pennsylvania, and Southeastern Ohio.Ā The Orlando F. Gabriele Chair of the Department of RadiologyĀ is responsible forĀ the provision of imaging services in conjunction with a strong commitment to undergraduate, pre-doctoral,Ā graduate,Ā and interdisciplinary health sciences education. This includes ensuring the highest quality of care and service, consistency in the standard of practice,Ā maintainingĀ excellence across the educational spectrum, and enabling scholarly advances in the field. He/sheĀ facilitatesĀ an interdisciplinary approach to achieve excellence in clinical care, education, and research in an environment in which collaboration is valued and encouraged.Ā

ALLOCATION OF TIME:Ā ClinicalĀ 30-40%; Administrative, Educational and Research, 60-70%.Ā Ā

EDUCATIONAL :Ā 

  • Works collaboratively with the Chancellor & Executive Dean, Associate Deans, other Department Chairs, Program Directors, and faculty on curriculum for the medical school.Ā 

  • Ā TeachesĀ medical students,Ā residents,Ā and allied health professionals.Ā 

  • Ā Supports the Residency and Fellowship Program Directors andĀ complies withĀ the standards of the Office of GraduateĀ Medical Education.Ā 

  • Ā Maintains accreditation of all educational programs.Ā 

  • Ā Promotes the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of academic faculty within the Department.Ā 

  • Ā Assures continuing faculty development activities in education.Ā 

  • Ā Provides annual summative evaluation and oversight of all faculty within the department, particularly with regards toĀ the promotion and tenure cycle, as well as ongoing formative evaluation and feedback.Ā 

Ā 

CLINICALĀ :

  • DeterminesĀ the qualifications and assesses the competency of all members of the department and coordinates andĀ provides oversight of all medical staff as it relates to credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging.Ā 

  • Ā Collaborates with clinical services to support a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.Ā 

  • Ā Ensures that patient care delivery and clinical standards for the department are consistent with current professionalĀ guidelines, accreditation standards, and the mission, vision, and values of WVU Medicine.Ā 

  • Ā Monitors clinician, referring provider, patient, and employee satisfactionĀ in accordance withĀ organizational goals andĀ guidelines, whileĀ maintainingĀ clinical excellence.Ā 

  • Ā Ensures the practice of evidence-based medicine, as well asĀ optimalĀ patient care by clinicians.Ā 

  • Ā Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer to develop andĀ monitorĀ continuous performanceĀ improvement.Ā 

  • Ā Participates in clinical service.Ā

  • Oversees departmental finances with regards toĀ the clinicalĀ practice and educational mission.Ā Ā 

  • Ā Creates and executesĀ an appropriate departmentalĀ budget, with theĀ assistanceĀ of Departmental and Hospital Administrators, and other key personnel.Ā Ā 

  • Ā Provides recommendationsĀ regardingĀ equitableĀ compensation forĀ faculty, andĀ staff working in radiology and updates them regularly.Ā Ā 

  • Ā Makes recommendations for annual capital improvements and monitors future fiscal needs of the department.Ā Ā 

Ā 

HOSPITALĀ :

  • Oversees clinical operations, capitalĀ purchases,Ā and compliance.Ā 

  • Ā Contributes to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical services.Ā 

  • Ā Works with leadership toĀ monitorĀ physician productivity, quality, access, and clinician/patient/staff satisfaction.Ā 

  • Ā Serves as spokesperson for the department,Ā advisesĀ leadership, and acts as an agent for implementing the policiesĀ and procedures of the hospital.Ā 

  • Ā Coordinates with Administration, Chairs, and Medical Directors toĀ optimizeĀ access and the delivery of care to patients.Ā 

  • Ā Ensures that clinical care is consistent with current professional standards, as well as with the mission, vision, andĀ values of WVU Medicine.Ā 

  • Ā Collaborates with quality and compliance officers in performance improvement projects, turnaround time, sentinelĀ event reports, key performance indicators and established metrics and dashboards.Ā

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE AND EXPERIENCE : Ā 

  • At least ten (10) years of clinical practice experience and a minimum of three (3)Ā yearsĀ administrative experienceĀ in an academic medical center preferred.Ā 

  • Familiarity with clinical program administration and graduate medical educationĀ required.Ā 

  • An accomplished physician (MD/DO), with current and ongoing certification by the American Board of Radiology.Ā 

  • Must meet requirements for medical licensure in the State ofĀ West Virginia,Ā active clinical practice.Ā 

  • Current medical school appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.Ā
