Job Description Summary:

The Manager, Shipping & Packing is responsible for overseeing all shipping and packing operations to ensure accurate, timely, safe, and cost-effective outbound distribution. This role leads supervisors and teams, ensures compliance with transportation and safety regulations, manages documentation and freight costs, and drives continuous improvement to support operational and customer requirements.

Job Description:

Key ResponsibilitiesĀ 

Ā 

Shipping & Packing OperationsĀ 

  • Manage daily shipping and packing activities to meet production schedules, customer commitments, and service level expectationsĀ 

  • Ensure all products are packed, labeled, and shipped accurately in accordance with company standards and carrier requirementsĀ 

  • Coordinate outbound shipments with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholdersĀ 

  • Monitor labor, equipment, and dock utilization to maximize efficiencyĀ 

Compliance & DocumentationĀ 

  • Ensure Bills of Lading (BOLs), packing lists, shipping labels, and related documents are accurate, complete, and timelyĀ 

  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety and shipping policies, including hazardous materials when applicableĀ 

  • Maintain shipping records for audits, claims, and record retention requirementsĀ 

  • Investigate and resolve shipment discrepancies, damages, shortages, and carrier issuesĀ 

Financial & Cost ManagementĀ 

  • Manage shipping and packing budgets, including labor, freight, and suppliesĀ 

  • Analyze freight spend, carrier performance, and damage claims to identifycost reduction opportunitiesĀ 

  • Support carrier negotiations and contract compliance in coordination with Procurement and FinanceĀ 

  • Ensure accurate freight billing, accruals, and cost allocationĀ 

People Leadership & DevelopmentĀ 

  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and shipping/packing staffĀ 

  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and corrective actions in partnership with HRĀ 

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvementĀ 

  • Develop staffing plans and succession coverageĀ 

Safety & Continuous ImprovementĀ 

  • Enforce safe work practices, proper use of PPE, and adherence to safety proceduresĀ 

  • Track and report KPIs such as on time delivery, error rates, damages, and productivityĀ 

  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, accuracy, and safetyĀ 

  • Support implementation and optimization of WMS, TMS, ERP, and eBOL systemsĀ 

Cross Functional CollaborationĀ 

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Warehouse, Inventory Control, Quality, Customer Service, and Finance teamsĀ 

  • Act as escalation point for critical shipping issues and customer service interruptionsĀ 

  • Provide regular reporting and operational insights to leadershipĀ

Required QualificationsĀ 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field (or equivalent experience)Ā 

  • 5–8 years of experience in shipping, packing, or logistics operationsĀ 

  • 3+ years of people management experienceĀ 

  • Strong knowledge of shipping documentation, including Bills of LadingĀ 

  • Experience with freight carriers, dock operations, and warehouse/shipping systemsĀ

  • High attention to detail and documentation accuracyĀ 

  • Financial and analytical acumenĀ 

  • Effective communication and problem-solving skillsĀ 

  • Proficiency with ERP, WMS/TMS, and reporting toolsĀ 

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environmentĀ

  • Extended hours, weekends, or holidays may be required during peak periodsĀ

The anticipated compensation range is

69,000.00 - 137,000.00 USD Annual

Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors including qualifications, education, experience, and location. The pay range is subject to change at any time dependent on a variety of internal and external factors.
