Job SummaryĀ 

The Sr.Ā Software Engineer within the DevOps team will lead the design, implementation, and evolution of cloud-native infrastructure and automated systems that power our hockey analytics platform and data ecosystem. This role has a strong emphasis on AWS-based architecture,Ā DevSecOpsĀ best practices, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), while continuing to support software engineering, data platform development, and analytics-driven applications.Ā

The Sr.Ā Software Engineer will play a key role in building secure, scalable, andĀ highly reliableĀ cloud infrastructure, enabling rapid, safe delivery of analytics solutions through modern CI/CD pipelines and automation-first engineering practices. You will work across data architecture, platform services, and application development, ensuring seamless delivery, operational excellence, and rapid issue resolution.Ā

Working closely with the Director of DevOps & Data Engineering and other team members,Ā the Sr.Ā Software Engineer will act as a technical leader—sharing cloud, security, and automationĀ expertiseĀ to help the team deliver high-quality, production-grade systems. This position offers the opportunity to drive innovation and have a direct impact on both the organization and the hockey analytics team.Ā 

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesĀ 

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure and core services for the hockey analytics platform, with a strong focus on AWS architecture, scalability, reliability, security, and performance.Ā 

  • Architect and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar frameworks to ensure reproducible, auditable, and secure environments across development and production.Ā 

  • ChampionĀ DevSecOpsĀ practices, embedding security, compliance, and observability into CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure, and application delivery processes.Ā 

  • Build,Ā maintain, andĀ optimizeĀ CI/CD pipelines to support automated testing, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning.Ā 

  • Develop andĀ maintainĀ internal tooling, services, and dashboards that support hockey data analysis, platform monitoring, and operational visibility.Ā 

  • Monitor cloud systems, applications, and data pipelines, proactivelyĀ identifyingĀ performance, cost, reliability, or security issues and troubleshooting production incidentsĀ in a timely manner.Ā 

  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements and design scalable, maintainable, and efficient cloud-native solutions.Ā 

  • Lead architectural discussions, code reviews, and infrastructure reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices for cloud design, security, coding standards, and operational excellence.Ā 

  • Mentor junior engineers and interns, fostering a collaborative environment and promoting professional growth through hands-on technical guidance, cloud architecture mentorship, and regular feedback.Ā

QualificationsĀ 

  • Bachelor’s orĀ Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Ā 

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or related roles.Ā 

  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.Ā 

  • ProficiencyĀ in Python, including software design, development, and debugging.Ā 

  • Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.Ā 

  • Deep experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (preferred), including cloud networking, compute, storage, managed services, and security concepts.Ā 

  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and cloud automation.Ā 

  • Experience implementingĀ DevSecOpsĀ practices, including CI/CD automation, secrets management, environment isolation, and security best practices.Ā 

  • ExpertiseĀ building and supporting data pipelines, analytics platforms, and real-time or near–real-time data processing systems.Ā 

  • Experience developing andĀ maintainingĀ REST APIs.Ā 

  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Airflow, orĀ Dagster, along with Linux/Unix operating systems.Ā 

  • Experience designing database architectures, including data modeling, schema design, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.Ā 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams including managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders.Ā 

  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS is a plus.Ā

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in office and arena environment that can be exciting,Ā loudĀ and distracting  

  • This is an onsite role; flexibility to work a minority of time remotely.  

  • Ability to work extended hours including late nights, holidays, and weekends as needed  

  • Ability to work prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  

  • Ability to lift/carry/move up to 10lbsĀ 

  • Ability to work in cold/hot indoor and outdoor temperatures  

  • Ability to work in areas that can become crowded with equipment and/or people
