Overview
A newly established franchised dealership in Edenvale, representing the iCAUR brand (Chery Group's new SUV / new-energy marque), is looking for a hands-on Working Foreman to help stand up and run its workshop. This is a floor-based role: you will carry your own diagnostic and repair work while supervising a small team of technicians and apprentices, setting workshop standards from day one on a brand with no established local repair history.
This suits a trade-qualified technician who has already led a bay or team at a franchised dealership and wants the opportunity to build a workshop culture from the ground up on a growing Chinese OEM brand.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Perform diagnostics, servicing, repairs and warranty work on iCAUR vehicles (ICE, hybrid and electric drivetrains)
- Supervise, mentor and allocate work to technicians and apprentices; carry out quality control on completed jobs
- Manage workshop workflow: job-card allocation, clocking, productivity and efficiency targets
- Ensure all repairs and warranty claims are completed to OEM standards and fully documented
- Support the Service Manager / Service Advisors with technical diagnoses, quotations and customer explanations
- Maintain workshop tooling, special equipment and high-voltage safety compliance
- Attend OEM technical training and cascade new procedures to the team
- Enforce health and safety, housekeeping and dealer-standard compliance in the workshop
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Motor Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic (Red Seal trade test) – essential
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in a franchised dealership workshop
- Minimum 2 years as a Foreman, Working Foreman or Senior / Master Technician leading other technicians
- Strong diagnostic skills with OEM diagnostic tools and scan equipment
- Working knowledge of warranty processes, job cards and a dealer management system
- Valid Code B driver's licence; clear criminal record
- Based in, or able to work from, the Edenvale / East Rand area
Advantageous
- Exposure to Chinese OEM brands (Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, Haval, GWM, BYD, etc.)
- Hybrid and/or high-voltage EV certification
- Experience opening or setting up a new workshop / dealership
- Manufacturer-recognised technical training or Master Technician accreditation
Personal Attributes
- Hands-on leader who works alongside the team rather than from an office
- Calm under pressure with a strong quality-first mindset
- Able to train and develop junior technicians
- Reliable, punctual and committed to dealer standards
