MRI Technician

The MRI Technologist is responsible for providing exceptional care and excellent customer service to patients undergoing MRI scans. This role involves preparing patients and equipment for MRI procedures, performing MRI scans, and ensuring accurate and high-quality imaging results.

Qualifications required:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree is preferred.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certification.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • A minimum of one year of related experience in a hospital setting.

Essential Job functions and responsibilities:

  • Perform MRI procedures on patients, ensuring high-quality imaging results.
  • Prepare patients for MRI examinations by:
    • Explain the procedure and address any questions or concerns.
    • Administering contrast materials when necessary.
    • Positioning patients correctly in the MRI scanner.
    • Selecting appropriate imaging techniques based on patient needs.
  • Enter and monitor patient data in the electronic medical record system.
  • Maintain required competencies and demonstrate proficiency in procedural processes and safe equipment use.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and assist with documentation or audit processes related to MRI services.

Nonessential Job Functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or department director.
  • Maintain the MRI patient care area, ensuring adequate supply levels.
  • Assist with patient restraints and safety precautions.
  • Collect, report, and document data regarding patient needs, emergencies, and unusual behaviors of patients and family members.
  • Attend staff meetings or other company-sponsored training as required.

Job Competencies:

  • Proficiency in navigating and utilizing the electronic medical record system.
  • Understanding and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Commitment to maintaining and improving skill levels through continuing education, collaborative training with colleagues and physicians, and annual skills check-offs.

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and position patients as required for MRI procedures.
  • Standing for extended periods and the capability to handle medical equipment safely.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Work environment:

  • OSHA Category I: Normal routine involves exposure to blood, bodily fluid, or tissue as part of their employment.
