Teaching at Achievement First:
Achievement First invites passionate educators to apply for the position of Short-Term Substitute Teacher. Short-Term Substitute is a temporary teaching position at Achievement First. It is ideal for an educator with a deep passion for instruction who is eager to gain rigorous development to help perfect their craft or gain experience in the teaching field. Â
Responsibilities of Achievement First Substitute Teachers will include but are not limited to:Â Â
Outstanding academic achievement and personal development Â
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that excites and invests students to reach ambitious goals.Â
- Build classroom community by partnering with families to facilitate children’s academic success and personal development. Â
- Utilize data from Achievement First’s interim assessments to drive instruction and intervention.Â
- Exemplify AF’s core values in all interactions with students, families and colleagues.Â
Professional learning, development and growthÂ
- Collaborate with coach, grade-level chair and school team to improve instructional, culture-building and leadership skills.Â
- Participate enthusiastically in structured and informal learning and development opportunities.Â

- Strong instructional and classroom management skills.Â
- High level of personal organization and planning.Â
- Team player: maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow-through, sense of humor, willingness to respond positively to feedback and a “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude.

- Mastery of and enthusiasm for subject matter.Â
Educational Background and Work Experience
- Â A Bachelors Degree is required; CT certification is preferred.
Â
- Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0; Master’s degree preferred.
- If your GPA is between 2.75 and 3.0, you may submit additional recommendations to be considered.
- Connecticut certified or in process of obtaining a certification.

Per CT State guidelines, if you do not have a Bachelor's degree then a waiver can be submitted if you meet the following criteria:
• At least 18 years of age
• Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• Have had experience working with school aged children
Compensation & Benefits
- This position is for 4 months while school is in session with no benefits. Qualified candidates will be paid $142.80/day for the 2024-2025 School Year.
