Job DetailsJob Location: United Digestive Pathology Services - Alpharetta, GA 30022Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High School or GEDTravel Percentage: As needed for business requirements.Job Category: Ancillary ServicesGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for assisting pathology operations supervisor and other members of the pathology leadership team with all responsibilities and tasks delegated to the Lab Assistant staff. Ensures all roles in the lab assistant duties are covered including clinical, clerical, and organizational tasks revolving around patient care in the laboratory setting. Assumes the responsibility of making assignments resulting in resolution of requests which may include accessioning, transcription, case assembly and distribution, and general laboratory duties and questions under the direction of the operations supervisor. Provides strong and consistent leadership to team members, including contributing to an environment oriented to trust, open communication, creative thinking and cohesive team effort.   REPORTS TO: Reports to Pathology Operations Supervisor   RESPONSIBILITIES Duties may include but are not limited to: Coordinate coverage assignments for lunches and PTO; fills in for lab assistant staff as needed Oversees timely coordination of one or more primary lab assistant duties as directed by the Operations Supervisor Oversees lab reconciliations (e.g., received orders, problem cases, pending logs) that support timely patient results as directed by the Operations Supervisor Assists Operations Supervisor with training, coaching and development of the lab assistant team; including ongoing proficiency testing and quality reviews Assists Operations Supervisor in monitoring staff to prevent and/or minimize overtime while covering lab assistant duties and tasks Monitor equipment essential to the work of the lab assistant team to ensure proper functioning and calibration Assist the Operations Supervisor in maintaining and ordering laboratory inventory Assist with OSHA and Safety program requirements as directed by the Operations Supervisor   Monitors schedule and supports workflow initiatives to ensure timely handling of patient cases and materials Assists with quality and/or error investigations; interprets and accurately communicates findings to supervisor(s) and/or pathologist as necessary  Has knowledge of general laboratory operational procedures and standards; supports adherence to SOPs Performs upkeep for laboratory with regards to sterilization and infection control, supplies, and equipment  Answers emails and voicemails and returns calls in a timely and efficient manner  Completes requests for information and/or materials from other UD staff and external laboratories/providers and ensures they are handled promptly and effectively to ensure patient results and follow-ups Abides by and promotes HIPAA compliance; maintains strictest confidentiality with regards to patient information  Participates in staff meetings as directed by the Operations Supervisor and/or members of the Path Leadership Team Hosts team huddles as directed by the Operations Supervisor and/or members of the Path Leadership Team Cross trains and performs other office functions including accessioning, transcription, case assembly and distribution, equipment and inventory maintenance, block/slide filing and archives, send outs, etc. Any other duties and/or special projects as assigned  REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Previous experience as a lab assistant/aid in professional laboratory settings is required. 2-3 years of specialty clinical experience, gastroenterology experience, leadership experience preferred. Pathology Lab Team Lead must be computer literate and able to operate healthcare and laboratory systems as well as multiple Microsoft Office applications.   ADDITIONAL SKILL AND EXPERIENCE Pathology Team Lead must be able to: Possesses the ability to deal with patients, visitors, co-workers, and physicians with courtesy and respect Displays a professional outgoing warm and helpful attitude Possesses compassion for dealing with people who are ill and need help Plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks as delegated by the Operations Supervisor  Work under pressure; assess, respond, and communicate issues in a timely manner  Communicate clearly with patients and coworkers through the telephone, email, and in-person  Interpret and apply standard work policies and procedures  PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment; travel within the Metro area required  Qualifications
