MechanicalĀ SME- Critical FacilitiesĀ

As a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) at JLL, you will serve as the technical authority and strategic advisor for complex mechanical systems acrossĀ a large hyperscale data center. This specialized role demands deepĀ expertiseĀ in HVAC design, mechanical system optimization, and advanced building technologies while providing consultative support to engineering teams, clients, and project stakeholders. You will lead technical assessments, drive innovation initiatives, andĀ establishĀ best practices that enhance system performance, energy efficiency, and operational reliability across multiple facility types.Ā

Critical Systems Management:āÆĀ
Oversee HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems specific to data center operationsāÆĀ
Implement andĀ maintainĀ critical environment protocols and Method of Procedure (MOP) processesāÆĀ
Conduct regular performance analyses of facility mechanical and electrical systemsāÆĀ
āÆĀ
Mechanical Engineering Applications:āÆĀ
Apply mechanical engineering principles to improve data center efficiency and reliabilityāÆĀ
Design and implement cooling solutionsĀ optimizedĀ for high-density server environmentsāÆĀ
Analyze and enhance airflow management strategiesāÆĀ
āÆĀ
Preventive Maintenance and Troubleshooting:āÆĀ
Develop and execute comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules for all critical infrastructureāÆĀ
Lead root cause analysis for any system failures or inefficienciesāÆĀ
Implement corrective actions and system upgrades based on engineering assessmentsāÆĀ
Incident ManagementĀ Ā
Be the first point of contact forĀ service impacting events involving the mechanical plant.Ā
AssistĀ the team in troubleshooting andĀ mitigating incidents.Ā Ā
AssistĀ in the creation of root cause analysis (RCAs).Ā
Be available for after-hoursĀ supportĀ regardingĀ the mechanical plant.Ā Ā

Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:āÆĀ
Propose and implement energy-saving initiatives to reduce Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE)āÆĀ
Evaluate and integrate green technologies suitable for data center operationsāÆĀ

Compliance and Safety:āÆĀ
Ensure adherence to industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, ISO) and local regulationsāÆĀ
Oversee safety protocols and conduct regular safety auditsāÆĀ
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of data center best practices and emerging technologiesāÆĀ
āÆĀ
Team Leadership and Project Management:āÆĀ
Mentor and guide a team of facility technicians and engineersāÆĀ
Manage complex data center infrastructure projects, including expansions and upgradesāÆĀ
āÆĀ
Vendor and Stakeholder Management:āÆĀ
Collaborate with equipment vendors and service providers to ensureĀ optimalĀ system performanceāÆĀ
Communicate effectively with executive management on infrastructure status and improvement plansāÆĀ

Physical work requirements and work conditionsāÆĀ

Desired experience and technical skills -āÆĀ
Required:āÆĀ
4+ years of technical experience in building engineering with a strong background in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and production equipment repair and maintenanceāÆĀ
Experience working in Data Centers/Raised Floor EnvironmentāÆĀ
Strong customer service and interpersonal skillsāÆĀ
Universal EPA 608 CertificationāÆĀ
CRAC (Liebert) maintenance and repair experienceāÆĀ
Licenses as required by authority havingĀ jurisdictionāÆĀ
Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and ExcelāÆĀ
2 years of trades school or documented apprenticeship in relevant craft skillsāÆĀ
Valid driverās licenseĀ
āÆĀ
Preferred:āÆĀ
ExpertiseĀ in one specific craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations, Material Handling Equipment)āÆĀ
Familiarity with building automation systems and fire/life safetyāÆĀ
