About the Role

Seeking an energetic and experienced Mid/Sr System Administrator to support a large, complex, and geographically distributed network environment in Annapolis Junction, MD.

In this role, you will deliver full-lifecycle systems administration, operations, and maintenance across multiple air-gapped enclaves, each featuring dedicated domains, storage architectures, and network infrastructure. You will be responsible for deploying, patching, and optimizing server and desktop environments, driving security compliance, and troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues to ensure maximum operational uptime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, optimize, and maintain Windows and Linux server/desktop configurations across complex, air-gapped enclaves.

  • Administer, sustain, and troubleshoot web-based information sharing and storage application environments.

  • Manage Active Directory, domain services, group policies, certificate renewals, and access controls.

  • Execute system scanning, vulnerability management, security patching, and vulnerability mitigation using automated tools.

  • Perform client and server virtualization management, virtual machine provisioning, and hardware reimaging/troubleshooting.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of server and network architectures to facilitate rapid incident response and knowledge sharing.

  • Communicate system status, scheduled maintenance, and outage resolutions with end users, technical teams, and program leadership.

  • Support occasional short-duration local/day travel and handle physical equipment handling (up to 50 lbs).

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.

  • Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Management, or a related technical discipline plus at least 8 years of relevant systems administration experience, OR

    • Equivalent combination of additional years of hands-on technical experience substituting for the degree.

  • Operating Systems & Directory Services: Proficiency with Windows Server 2019, Active Directory, and foundational knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

  • Virtualization: Hands-on experience administering client and server virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware).

  • Enterprise Tools: Demonstrated familiarity with enterprise monitoring, automation, and security tools (e.g., SaltStack, Ansible, Splunk, Puppet, SolarWinds, Nessus).

  • Hardware & Operations: Proven ability to install, configure, troubleshoot, reimage, back up, and restore enterprise server and desktop hardware.

  • Physical & Travel Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and support occasional day or short-duration travel.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server administration.

  • Automation and scripting experience using Python, SaltStack, PowerShell, and PowerCLI.

  • Background supporting software configuration management and development staging environments.

  • Experience working within Agile frameworks and delivery teams.

  • Working knowledge of PKI architectures utilizing Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and NTP synchronization.

  • Experience generating documentation and technical evidence for system security authorization and accreditation packages.
