CNC Programmer

This role is part of our Space and Launch business, which has contributed to the nation’s space programs for decades by delivering complete solutions from concept to flight. We enable successful space operations with mission-critical technology supporting every step from first launch to final landing, including launch vehicle subsystems, propulsion systems, aerodynamic and interstage systems, and payload protection and deployment. Our high-performance solutions are engineered to operate in the most extreme environments and meet precise mission requirements.

As a CNC Programmer, you develop, implement, and support machining processes for advanced precision components. You create and optimize toolpaths, design machining strategies, validate processes, and collaborate closely with machinists, engineering, and quality teams. Your work directly supports manufacturability, production efficiency, and the delivery of high‑quality components used in mission-critical space applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and programs machining processes for complex components using Mastercam.
  • Designs machining strategies, toolpaths, and fixtures for three‑, four‑, and five‑axis CNC machines.
  • Supports assigned projects from initial programming through production release and ongoing optimization.
  • Troubleshoots machining, tooling, and quality issues directly on the shop floor.
  • Improves legacy part programs and enhances existing production processes.
  • Collaborates with Quality to interpret coordinate measuring machine (CMM) reports and inspection data.
  • Uses precision measuring tools to validate machining setups and process outcomes.
  • Provides manufacturability guidance to engineering teams and customers.
  • Mentors machinists, operators, and other programmers.
  • Assists in standardizing best practices for programming, setups, and documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with understanding of tooling, materials, and machining methods.
  • Five or more years of hands‑on Mastercam programming experience.
  • Solid print reading skills and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to read and interpret coordinate measuring machine (CMM) reports and verify data using measuring tools.
  • Ability to work directly on the shop floor to diagnose and resolve machining issues.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of file and data management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in a manufacturing‑related field.
  • Ability to read and write G and M code.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work directly on the shop floor, including standing and moving for extended periods.
    The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
