EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
High school graduate or equivalent plus a minimum of four years experience in the maintenance of heavy rail car maintenance systems/subsystems. Minimum of two years of formal training in electronics required. Two years of formal experience in electronics instruction is desired.  Must have demonstrated advanced computer skills in all primary departmental software platforms.

INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.

SUMMARY 
Provides classroom and on-the-job instruction to all journeymen and apprentice electronic technicians and supervisors in the operation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of rail vehicle systems and sub-systems. Develops basic, advanced, and refresher training programs for instruction in all areas of car maintenance to include propulsion, door control, auxiliary power systems, etc. Evaluates the performance of students/employees in training and assists in the administration, evaluation, and development of training programs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1. Conducts classroom and on-the-job instruction for all journeymen and apprentice electronic technicians and supervisors to enhance the knowledge and improve the skills and abilities necessary to effectively maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all related equipment. 
2. Provides for the development and/or acquisition of training programs and materials for classroom and on-the-job training. Recommends improvements to the existing programs. 
3. Monitors and evaluates the progress of employees in training and identifies overall training needs of units supported, by developing and delivering training programs. Identifies performance deficiencies and recommends future training. Assists branch managers in identifying training needs. 
4. Completes, submits, and maintains accurate up-to-date training records, required reports and schedules. 
5. Assists in planning, organization, and delivery of the annual Local Rail Rodeo and Roundup. 
6. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
Supervises the activities of trainees in bus maintenance, rail maintenance, bus transportation, rail transportation, track, automatic train control and related areas during apprenticeship certifications.  Activities include maintaining automated time and attendance, on-the-job training, enforcing policies and procedures, and progress updates to management.

Follow the work practices and standard operating procedures for this position. Use and/or wear the appropriate equipment, protective devices or clothing that MARTA requires. Report health and safety concerns related to performing the duties of your job to supervisors and report any on-going/unresolved health and safety concerns to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) co-chair, JHSC representative or safety representative. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
Wayside Access Certification required.
