Description 

National Network Services (NNS) is seeking an experienced Data Cabling Installation Lead to oversee structured cabling projects and lead installation teams in commercial environments. This role is responsible for the successful completion of assigned projects while maintaining NNS standards for safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. 

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with copper and fiber optic cabling systems, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage projects, mentor technicians, and communicate effectively with customers and project stakeholders.

General Requirements 

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screening if required
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding
  • Comfortable working in ceilings, crawl spaces, and construction environments
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable, punctual, and organized
  • Willingness to travel to job sites and occasionally work overtime as project schedules require

 

What You’ll Do 

Project Leadership 

  • Lead and oversee structured cabling installation projects from start to finish 
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards 
  • Assign daily work activities and provide direction to installation teams 
  • Monitor project progress and adjust resources as needed to meet project goals 
  • Maintain clear communication with customers, project managers, supervisors, and team members 

 

Team Development 

  • Mentor and train Level I and Level II Cable Installers 
  • Support employee development and technical skill advancement 
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and quality workmanship 

 

Technical Responsibilities 

  • Install, terminate, splice, test, troubleshoot, and certify copper and fiber optic cabling systems 
  • Utilize test equipment to verify system performance and troubleshoot issues 
  • Identify and resolve cabling, connectivity, and infrastructure problems 
  • Ensure installations comply with industry standards, customer requirements, and local codes 

 

Project Planning & Estimating 

  • Conduct site surveys and project walkthroughs for projects up to approximately $50,000 
  • Develop scopes of work, material lists, assumptions, and project estimates 
  • Review project requirements and create detailed execution plans 
  • Develop crew schedules, daily and weekly goals, safety plans, and tool requirements 
  • Track labor productivity, project budgets, and schedule performance 

 

Compliance & Standards 

  • Understand and apply industry standards and best practices 
  • Identify issues related to plenum vs. PVC cabling, ISP/OSP requirements, grounding, bonding, and lightning protection 
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and customer standards 

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • 5+ years of structured cabling installation experience 
  • Proven experience leading installation crews and managing commercial cabling projects 
  • Strong knowledge of copper and fiber optic cabling systems 
  • Experience with fiber termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting 
  • Ability to read blueprints, construction drawings, and project documentation 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills 
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, and labor resources 

 

Technical Skills 

  • Fiber optic identification, placement, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting 
  • Copper cabling installation, testing, and certification 
  • Familiarity with structured cabling standards and best practices 
  • Proficiency with: 
    • Microsoft Word 
    • Microsoft Excel 
    • Microsoft Project 
    • Adobe Acrobat 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • BICSI Technician or Installer Certification 
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification 
  • Experience with commercial construction projects 
  • Experience with data centers, telecom, or enterprise network infrastructure
