KXAN is hiring a Multiskilled Journalist to join our in-depth, investigative team in Central Texas. This position requires gathering and producing compelling content for online and on-air platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to the local news audience. This journalist is expected to embody KXAN’s in-depth brand by providing context, clarity and deeper understanding in each report.

Produce and report news stories for digital and broadcast news platforms, describing the background and details of events
Write reports for the web and other eMedia platforms, reviewing copy to correct errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories
Determine a story’s emphasis, length and format, and organize material accordingly
Research and analyze background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
Gather information about events and issues through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
Pitch stories to news managers and news producers which are timely and relevant to the local community
Receive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas
Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions
Revise work to meet editorial approval and to fit time requirements
Shoot and edit video to craft news reports
Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Fluency in English
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Superior on-air presence and delivery
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Flexibility to work any shift
