SUMMARY

Performs gardening work in conjunction with the planting and maintenance of company yards, lawns, gardens, trees, and other areas.

WORK PERFORMED
Plants, transplants, and cares for trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns, and ground areas of the facility. Cuts and trims lawns using power mowing equipment. Levels and rolls areas for gardening purposes. Arranges plants and shrubs according to accepted landscaping principles.

Trims and prunes trees and shrubs to advance growth or to improve their appearance. Aids in the selection of types of trees, shrubs, lawn seeds, and flowers to be used in relation to type of soil, water, facilities, and desired effect. Checks plants for evidence of disease or insect infestation and treats infected plants with proper chemicals or insecticides.

Selects and uses various kinds and amounts of fertilizers, chemicals, and soils to be utilized in planting areas. In conjunction with normal gardening duties, installs dividers and installs soil drainage and places unmortared stones and bricks to prevent soil erosion. Replaces or repairs sprinklers including PVC sprinkler piping.

Uses all types of tools, implements, and power equipment associated with gardening and required in the performance of the above duties. 

Provides documentation and proper recording of maintenance department records including preventative maintenance. Observes company, OSHA, and safely regulations. 

Performs other physical and manual tasks during inclement weather as required. Must be physically capable of working in high places, from ladders, etc. Must be able to follow exacting written and verbal instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS
High school/trade school or equivalent. Normally two (2) years-experience in commercial nursery and/or gardening. Requires the ability to perform physical work commensurate with the above job description Must possess a valid drivers’ license that meets the California Vehicle Code. 

Must be computer literate to the extent required to perform job functions and proper recording and documentation of maintenance records. 

Must be able to perform all essential job functions and environmental/physical considerations per Employee Requisition.
