JOB SUMMARY: The Depot Supervisor oversees daily driver and truck activity at A&L Foods' Baltimore depot. This hands-on role provides daily direction to Baltimore drivers, checks in routes as they return, ensures returned goods and equipment are accurately documented and staged for return to Bensalem, and keeps the depot safe, organized, and ready for the next operating cycle. The position serves as the on-site link between drivers, depot personnel, and the Logistics Manager.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide daily direction, support, and oversight to Baltimore-based drivers.
  • Monitor driver attendance, route assignments, vehicle readiness, and coverage needs; promptly communicate gaps to the Logistics Manager.
  • Check in each route and driver upon return, reviewing required paperwork, delivery exceptions, customer refusals, shortages, damages, payment documentation, and other route issues.
  • Confirm post-trip vehicle inspection and route-closeout requirements are completed and escalate safety, equipment, or compliance concerns.
  • Ensure returned saleable product, damaged goods, customer returns, empty pallets, reusable equipment, and transfer items are identified, documented, segregated, and staged correctly.
  • Coordinate the timely and accurate return of applicable goods, paperwork, and equipment to the Bensalem distribution center.
  • Communicate route results, returns, inventory discrepancies, service failures, equipment issues, and next-day needs to the Logistics Manager and Bensalem teams.
  • Support driver check-out and early-morning departure activity when coverage or operating conditions require.
  • Coach drivers on route procedures, documentation, customer service, safe work practices, and company expectations; document and escalate performance or conduct concerns according to company policy.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and secure depot, including loading areas, return staging areas, paperwork stations, and shared equipment.
  • Ensure returned refrigerated and frozen goods are handled and staged in accordance with food-safety and temperature-control procedures.
  • Reinforce compliance with DOT requirements, company safety policies, vehicle procedures, and material-handling practices.
  • Assist with investigations and follow-up related to delivery exceptions, product returns, accidents, customer complaints, or route documentation.
  • Support the Logistics Manager in managing DOT driver and truck compliance as well as other Logistics functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in logistics, transportation, operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Three or more years of transportation, distribution, dispatch, warehouse, or depot operations experience required, including at least one year of lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of route paperwork, delivery exceptions, product-return handling, fleet safety, and DOT requirements.
  • Experience in food, grocery, refrigerated, or frozen distribution preferred.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and transportation or warehouse systems.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required; commercial driver's license preferred.

  • Work is performed in an active cross-dock and transportation environment around delivery vehicles and material-handling equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and movement between office, dock, staging, and yard areas.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Periodic exposure to refrigerated, frozen, outdoor, and changing warehouse temperatures.
  • Ability to work safely around forklifts, pallet jacks, dock equipment, trucks, and trailers.
