Provide recreation activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, special entertainment, outings, special events and one-on-one visits. Encourage residents to participate in programming by taking the time to personally invite those residents Create an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility. Participate in community outings off-campus. Prepare and maintain accurate records of residents' attendance, progress and response to activities in accordance with state and federal regulations. Coordinate activities with other departments, and modify program content, times, and locations as necessary. Distribute the monthly newsletter of activities to every resident, and is able to clearly answer any questions pertaining to the information contained in the newsletter. Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of The Garlands as appointed. Conduct tours of the facility and explain available services to prospective families and residents. Assist with components of move-ins as assigned and directed by the Administrator. QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Activity Assistant: Experience working with Alzheimer’s & Dementia in assisted living or long term care environment Proven customer service skills  Compassion, patience and understanding Effective communication skills  Must complete 16 hours of Dementia Training within 1 year of hire. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to tolerate long periods of walking and standing Must be able to push customers in wheelchairs.
