GHD has an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Field Technician to join our team on a full-time, 40-hour/week basis, based out of our Baton Rouge, LA location. This role is a “hands on” field position.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

Responsibilities 

  • Inspection, maintenance, and gauging  of environmental groundwater wells 
  • Ensure work is completed in a safe and compliant manner with respect to applicable OSHA, GHD, and client standards 
  • Generate quality field notes and enter collected field data electronically to database programs 
  • Perform site housekeeping inspections with attention to detail in GHD’s operational area 
  • Operations and maintenance, troubleshooting, oversight, and repairs of remedial equipment including groundwater recovery wells, groundwater treatment unit, and all associated physical and mechanical components 
  • Operate groundwater treatment systems, including pumps, filters, and chemical dosing equipment, to ensure optimal performance 
  • Maintain accurate records of system operations and maintenance activities 
  • Provide health and safety/construction oversight of contractors 
  • Work directly with clients and contractors 
  • Conduct vegetation maintenance using heavy equipment (i.e. tractor with bushhog attachment) and weed eating 
  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate risks and to safeguard the environment and the well-being of self and others. 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills: 

  • Ability to perform field work  
  • Ability to communicate across diverse occupational roles 
  • Commitment to safety applying a behavior-based safety culture in all aspects of the job 
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and computer proficiency 
  • Must be proficient with standard hand and power tools 
  • Physically capable of working in non-ideal conditions, such as hot/cold temperatures, wet weather, outside, and around loud equipment and traversing rough terrains 
  • Ability to be a self-starter, proactive, flexible, great teammate, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks with minimal direction 
  • Ability to analyze field readings, data, and operating parameters to optimize system operations 

Education 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent  

Experience 

  • 0-3 years of previous industrial work experience 
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER is a plus 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record 
  • Experienced operator of heavy equipment is a plus
