Umbrella - £35.50 per hour - Umbrella​

Job Purpose

As an HGV Technician, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing, and inspecting the Council's fleet vehicles, ensuring they remain roadworthy, compliant, and operational. You will work on a wide range of vehicles including HGVs, light commercial vehicles, municipal fleet vehicles, and electric/hybrid vehicles.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and Council fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnose and rectify hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical faults.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and safety checks.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Carry out welding, fabrication, and body repair works.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns and accident-damaged vehicles.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Ensure vehicles meet DVSA and safety compliance standards.
  • Support the efficient operation of the Fleet Services workshop.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, workshop safety, and vehicle presentation.
  • Work on conventional, electric, and hybrid vehicle systems.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with manufacturer and Council standards.

Essential Experience Required

  • Significant experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, or Heavy Vehicle Technician.

  • Experience servicing and repairing HGVs.

  • Experience diagnosing:

    • Hydraulic faults
    • Pneumatic faults
    • Electrical faults
    • Mechanical faults
  • Experience carrying out MOT preparation and vehicle inspections.

  • Welding and fabrication experience.

  • Experience working on fleet, municipal, refuse, or commercial vehicles.

  • Experience maintaining workshop records and compliance documentation.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Motor Vehicle Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Qualification covering MOT inspection standards.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Category C Licence (Essential).
  • DVSA Inspection & Testing Qualification.

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week.
  • Monday to Friday only.
  • Location: Eastcroft Depot, Nottingham.
    Category C licence essential.

  • Working on HGVs, municipal vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and electric/hybrid fleets. 
  • We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
