The Fluid Systems Designer will develop, create, modify, and improve drawings and design documents to be utilized by the Hydraulic Power Unit and related production areas. To complete projects and assignments, the Designer will collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Production, Management, and related personnel. Additionally, you will provide mechanical design support for these and related functional areas. Such interaction will take place throughout the life of a design project, from development through implementation. Has knowledge of commonly-used mechanical concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field and relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under general supervision. A wide degree of latitude and creativity is expected. This position reports to the Design Manager.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. 

  • Design hydraulic systems based on provided hydraulic schematics, bill of material (BOM), and related documents.
  • Provide documentation necessary to build and test hydraulic systems, including but not limited to schematics, BOMs, general arrangement drawings, test procedures, etc.
  • Review in detail customer-supplied specifications and supporting documentation
  • Travel to Airline Hydraulics facilities, customers, and suppliers as necessary to support the Power Unit Department
  • Provide technical support for Sales, Customer Service, and other functional areas as needed
  • Support fab shop as needed.
  • Project management
  • Follow established processes and procedures related to the entire hydraulic system process 
  • Work with other members of the Hydraulic Fabrication group in a team-oriented environment
  • Be willing to contribute wherever necessary to help grow our company and other departments.
  • Provide estimating and design support for hydraulic power unit projects
  • Work with Sales, Production, Engineering, and related personnel to produce drawings from sketches, archived drawings, customer drawings, company drawings, Government drawings, specifications, electronic images, etc.
  • Design parts based on written and verbal descriptions from Design Engineers 
  • Complete design projects utilizing AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor 3D, and other design software 
  • Evaluate/compile the required product documentation before releasing a specific product
  • Support our Sales Team in the field and work with customers as needed
  • Modify, revise, and change designs, drawings, and related documents as needed
  • Manage assigned jobs by performing required testing and debugging when necessary 
  • Work closely with all Production Personnel to ensure that design drawings convey accurate information 
  • Review assigned jobs to confirm that they meet ISO, quality assurance, and customer’s design requirements
  • Attend and participate in meetings that focus on design reviews 
  • Calculate tolerance stack-ups to verify design fit-up 
  • Use established work instructions and drawing standards as guidelines
  • Perform additional related assignments as needed

 

Requirements

  • Degree or certification in Mechanical Technology, or trained as a Mechanical Designer/Drafter with related experience along with a High School diploma or GED. A combination of education and experience will be considered. 
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers (MS Windows) and a variety of desktop software including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor, electronic documentation systems, and scanners.
  • Strong and effective organization and time management skills
  • It is essential that the individual be detail oriented and precise
  • The individual must possess the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and adhere to project deadlines
  • 5 or more years of experience reading and interpreting Engineering documents 
  • Excellent project management, written and verbal communication skills 
  • Comfortable working in a multi-tasking environment
  • The ideal candidate must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
