GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications.  You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.Â
Position DescriptionÂ
Our Senior Engineer works with our Distinguished Engineer and Staff Engineers to design, deploy, and maintain OpenStack-based environments. You will help lead improve and expand the observability, performance and operability of our private cloud deployments The ideal candidate has expertise in monitoring and observability stacks, Python or similar languages, infrastructure deployment automation, and containerization technologies. Experience with OpenStack is also a plus.Â
Position ResponsibilitiesÂ
As a Senior Engineer, you will:Â
Improve on monitoring, observability and performance of deployed systemsÂ
Design, deploy, and manage OpenStack-based cloud environmentsÂ
Develop and maintain automation scripts and playbooks using Python, Ansible, and GitHub WorkflowsÂ
Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deliveryÂ
Support containerization initiatives (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)Â
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in cloud and automation workflowsÂ
Collaborate with development, operations, and security teamsÂ
Share best practices and improve processes within and across teamsÂ
Participate in on-call and operational support as neededÂ
QualificationsÂ
Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting and observability in cloud environmentsÂ
Experience with tools like Grafana and PromethiusÂ
Experience with performance tuning Â
Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)Â
Strong experience with Ansible for automation and configuration managementÂ
Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and workflows (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD)Â
Proficiency in Python programming or scriptingÂ
Good understanding of networking and security best practices in cloud deploymentsÂ
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsÂ
Strong communication and collaboration abilitiesÂ
Experience with OpenStack administration and operations a plusÂ
ExperienceÂ
4+ years of professional experience in cloud engineering, platform administration, or infrastructure automationÂ
4+ years of experience with OpenStack or similar cloud platformsÂ
4+ years of experience with Python and AnsibleÂ
4+ years of experience with monitoring and observability systems Â
4+ years of experience with containerization technologiesÂ
Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure, or on-premises) is a plusÂ
Experience with low level virtualization technologies (QEMU/libvirt) is a plusÂ
EducationÂ
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experienceÂ

Annual Salary
$100,000.00 - $215,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
