Lifeguard – YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase

Pay Rate: $16.50 per hour

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is a community-focused nonprofit dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

As a Lifeguard at the YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase, you will help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming pool environment. You will supervise swimmers, enforce safety rules, prevent accidents, and respond to emergencies. Lifeguard, CPR, and AED certification training may be available.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise swimmers and enforce pool safety rules.
• Respond to emergencies and perform rescues, CPR, and first aid as needed.
• Inspect pool areas and equipment for safety.
• Perform water testing, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
• Maintain accurate safety and water quality records.

Qualifications

• At least 16 years old and able to swim.
• Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications preferred.
• Strong communication, attention to detail, and reliability.
• Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergencies.
• Ability to work with children, families, and adults.

Physical Requirements

• Swim 500 yards continuously.
• Tread water for two minutes using legs only.
• Perform deep-water retrievals and victim rescues.
• Perform backboard rescues and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Monitor swimmers visually and audibly.
