Position Summary

Are you looking for a career that combines commercial driving, technical training, and opportunities for advancement? Join Sperry Rail as a Fleet Operations Assistant and begin building a career in railroad safety and Rail Flaw Detection.

This field-based position is designed for individuals who want to develop skills in both commercial vehicle operations and railroad testing. As a Fleet Operations Assistant, you will be cross-trained to drive Sperry's trucks while working toward the knowledge, technical skills, and certifications needed to advance into the Chief Operator career track.

Candidates who already possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or are willing to obtain one are encouraged to apply. For candidates who need their CDL, Sperry will pay for an approved CDL training program to help them obtain a Class B CDL with an air brake endorsement. Candidates pursuing this training must successfully obtain their CDL learner's permit through their home state's licensing agency before their employment start date.

In addition to developing your commercial driving skills, you will receive paid, hands-on training in Rail Flaw Detection (RFD), a specialized form of non-destructive testing (NDT) used to help identify defects in railroad tracks and support railway safety.

This is a high-travel, field-based position requiring extended travel assignments throughout the eastern or western United States, potentially for 3–4 months at a time. Training includes classroom instruction, practical experience, and field-based development.

Sperry is committed to helping employees grow within the organization. With successful completion of training, required qualifications, and demonstrated performance, this position provides a career path toward Certified Operator and, ultimately, Chief Operator opportunities.
