This role focuses on providing chair-side assistance to the dentist in the examination and treatment of patients. Coordinates the clinical supplies and equipment maintenance. Performs x-ray procedures, restores prepared teeth, place sealants, make temporary crowns, coronal polish and apply fluoride under the direct supervision of a dentist. Complete sterilization and infection control procedures. What you will do as a WMCHC Expanded Functions Dental Assistant II: Obtain, record and review medical and dental history forms. Prepare patients for treatment and prepare tray setups for dental procedures. Clean and prepare operatory for new patient. Sterilize, disinfect instruments and equipment. Assist in patient treatment by handing instruments to the Dentist, suction patient's mouth, and monitor patient when nitrous gas is used. Instruct patients in oral health and post-treatment care. Monitor and order dental supplies. Submit supply orders with the proper purchase number. Verify that all supplies and equipment are received on a specific invoice. Review the invoice and immediately sign the form and return it to the Materials Management Department. Coordinate patient scheduling with the Administrative Secretary II and provide office coverage of phones, computer (scheduling and billing) as necessary. Clean, maintain, monitor and schedule dental equipment maintenance when necessary. Send copies of all work records and invoices to the Materials Management Department. This includes any service provided under a maintenance agreement. Obtain dental x-rays as required. Mobile dental unit. Performs all tasks as required in the clinic setting. Works directly with the Mobile Dental Outreach to coordinate any necessary clinical activities. Ensure compliance with dental regulations, hospital policy and procedure and OSHA requirements. Work with clinical staff to ensure that quality patient care and services are provided. Commitment to continuous quality improvement. Makes recommendations for improved work flow and clinic operations. Restore four or more surface preparations Restore teeth preparations in esthetic areas Fabricate temporary crowns/restorations Assessing and choosing proper shade to match existing dentition. Coronal polishing Apply fluoride treatment Other duties as assigned.
