Job Duties
- Prepare legal memorandums, opinions, orders and local rules for the Judges’ revie.
- Perform legal research.
- Analyze factual and legal issues.
- Conceptually analyze legal arguments to assist the Judges in drafting legal opinions.
- Assist with jury selection and coordination.
- Stay apprised of new developments in the law.
- Prepare jury charges in civil and criminal trials.
- Assist the Office of the District Court Administrator in answering legal questions.
- Meet deadlines, prioritize work and maintain strict confidentiality in all cases.
- Other duties as assigned by the Judges and District Court Administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited college or university with a degree in law.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain tact, composure, and confidentiality.
- Possession of strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Outstanding legal reasoning and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Court employees and Court-related personnel.
- Commitment to demonstrating conduct that inspires public confidence and trust in the Courts, preserves the integrity of the Court system, and reflects a commitment to serving the public.
- Compliance with the Code of Conduct for Employees of the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania.
- Commitment of at least two years to the position; however, the term of the position can be extended or become permanent if desired by the Judges and Law Clerk.
