About the Opportunity

Job Summary

Community-Engaged Teaching and Research (CETR) is a part of Educational Innovation in the Office of the Chancellor and promotes ethical experiential learning at Northeastern. The CETR team supports service-learning courses, community-engaged research, and various experiential learning opportunities aligned with curricular objectives. Through student leadership programs, faculty development, and community partnership building, CETR facilitates meaningful experiences on and off-campus.Ā Ā Ā 

While this team frequently contributes to international dialogues on community-engaged practices in higher education, CETR is also recognized nationally as a top service-learning program.Ā  Service-Learning (S-L) is a form of experiential learning for students and a teaching tool for faculty that purposefully integrates their academic coursework with service to meet classroom and community goals throughout the semester. Our Community-Engaged Teaching and Research team collaborates with over 60 faculty members incorporating service or community engagement into 100+ courses each year. Some of our signature programs and events include the S-L Teaching Assistant program, S-L Fellows program, Virtual EXPO, Request for Partnerships process and community partner recruitment, faculty development workshops, and more.Ā 

Key Responsibilities & Accountability:

1)Strategic Stakeholder Engagement:Ā 

  • Develop institutional relationships with over 100 community-based organizations through multiple mediums (i.e. emails, phone calls, face-to-face).Ā Ā 

2) Events and Project Development:Ā 

  • Plan and support events (semester, annual, and bi-annual) to strengthen campus and community relationships and align with academic scholarship.Ā 

  • Update faculty and community partner training materials and communication platforms for CETR programs, ensuring relevant information is accessible.Ā 

  • Work with and provide support to program leadership as they plan program functions including recruitment events, information sessions, graduation celebrations, etc.Ā 

  • Provide administrative oversighton special projects and strategic initiatives within the CETR team.

3) Project and Operational Implementation:Ā 

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director to manage day-to-day operations and track faculty engagement, community partnerships, student leader participation, and course information.Ā 

  • Provide administrative oversight for and engagement with a network of 75+ faculty and 100+ community partnerships.Ā 

  • Monitor the CETR shared inbox for inquiries and resource requests.Ā 

  • Streamline processes and enhance efficiency within CETR operations.

4) Evaluation, Assessment, and Data Analysis:Ā 

  • Manage and implement evaluation processes for current programming, utilizing data to propose evidence-based program enhancements.

  • Collaborate with university analytics teams to align assessment strategies with institutional priorities.

  • Collect, track, and compile key metrics on programs as directed by Program Directors or other College leadership.

  • Lead the organization of our internal databases (ex. Airtable, Excel, Salesforce, etc.)Ā 

5) Communications and Campus Collaboration:Ā 

  • Oversee external (off-campus) communication efforts and collaborate on internal network storytelling.Ā 

  • Represent CETR at relevant campus events, collaborate with other community engagement staff and contributing to broader team goals.Ā 

Minimum Qualifications

This position plays a crucial role in the implementation and maintenance of CETR programs and operations.Ā  Reporting directly to the Associate Director, this role will ensure the effective execution of CETR initiatives and support ethical community engagement in teaching and research partnerships.Ā Ā Ā 


Operationally, we are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred.Ā 

  • Holds 1-5 years of experience in community engagement at a higher education institution or related organization.Ā 

  • Has showcased experience in qualitative data methods, program evaluation, and assessment, with backgrounds in thematic coding and survey design strongly desired.Ā Ā 

  • Has showcased experience in quantitative data methods, with a background in statistical analysis strongly desired.Ā Ā 

  • Holds foundational skills in managing complex databases (e.g. Airtable), with deep backgrounds in coding languages (in order of preference: JavaScript, HTML, and CSS) strongly desired.Ā Ā 

  • Has showcased experience in managing projects that impact multiple stakeholders simultaneously; experience in related budget or finance management a plus.Ā Ā
