In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in ā€œvalidā€ Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Movement Matters leaders will teach seated dance classes to retirement communities throughout the greater Boston area.

Expected Hours Per Week: 3-12
Expected dates and times of shifts: Saturdays and Sundays

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Ā Ā 

  • 1. Teach between 4 and 10 Movement Matters classes each semester.Ā 

  • 2. Attend training workshops to learn new curriculum as needed.Ā 

  • 3. Supervise volunteer teaching assistants who are assigned to class sessions.Ā 

  • 4. Independently adjust/arrange schedules with other instructors if conflicts with assigned classes arise.

  • 5. Regularly report via email on class sizes, volunteer attendance, and general impressions of class ambiance/success.Ā 

Required Skills and Knowledge:Ā 

  • 1. Must be a 3rd or 4th year Theater/Dance major.Ā Ā 

  • 2. Must complete a minimum of one semester as a volunteer teaching assistant for Movement Matters,Ā  or have relevant experience.Ā Ā 

  • 3. Must know the general structure of a seated movement class.Ā Ā 

  • 4. Demonstrate enthusiasm for the project, a solid understanding of the curricular goals, and both theĀ  commitment and maturity to independently teach classes while serving as an ā€ambassadorā€œ for the Conservatory in the wider Boston community.
