The Outdoor Experiences Assistant supports the efforts of Outdoor Experiences staff with educational programs, camps, recreation programs, gardening, hosting, office work, cleaning, and other duties as assigned. This is a short-term, entry-level opportunity designed to help candidates develop professional skills in the field of Outdoor Experiences.

  1. Provides outdoor recreation and educational programs that serve to enhance Cleveland Metroparks conservation, education and outdoor recreation mission and to promote environmental education and stewardship.
  2. Assists with outdoor recreation and environmental education programs within the park district and at off-site locations.
  3. Participates in special events or projects as assigned.
  4. Demonstrated organizational skills including verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict management.
  5. Drives Park District vehicles to transport equipment as required.
  6. Assists in maintaining and prepping equipment and program materials.

 

Qualifications
  • Must be at least a high school junior. Must have a strong interest in environmental education, outdoor recreation, natural resources, history, or related discipline.
  • Must have a valid driver's license under the laws of the State of Ohio. Must obtain and maintain a current first aid/CPR certification.
  • Willing and able to engage diverse audiences in outdoor education or recreation.
  • Basic knowledge of natural and/or cultural history of the region.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Work Schedule:  Up to 40 hours per week, for up to 6 months, subject to operational needs. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
