CMM Programmer Operator Level III

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior CMM Programmer/Operator to lead dimensional inspection and metrology initiatives in our die cast manufacturing facility. You will be responsible for developing complex CMM programs, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the highest level of dimensional accuracy and compliance with customer and internal requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the creation, modification, and optimization of CMM programs using PC-DMIS, Calypso, or other industry-standard software based on 3D CAD models and technical drawings.
• Perform and oversee First Article Inspections (FAI), in-process measurements, and final inspections on aluminum die cast parts, tools, and fixtures.
• Interpret complex GD&T specifications and engineering drawings to ensure conformance with tight tolerances.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to support design validation, process capability studies (CPK, PPK), and root cause analysis.
• Train and mentor junior CMM operators/programmers and establish best practices for measurement methodology and programming standards.
• Develop and maintain robust documentation including inspection reports, work instructions, and calibration records.
• Evaluate and implement new metrology technologies and tools to enhance inspection capabilities.
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for CMM operations during customer audits, PPAP submissions, and internal quality reviews.


Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing Technology, Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience programming and operating CMMs in a manufacturing environment, preferably in aluminum die casting or metal component production.
• Advanced proficiency in PC-DMIS, Calypso, or equivalent CMM software.
• Expert-level understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and blueprint reading.
• Proven experience with SPC, MSA, and root cause/corrective action processes.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and other quality management systems.
• Familiarity with statistical tools, quality software (e.g., Q-DAS, Minitab), and digital inspection reporting platforms.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate clearly across departments.


• Experience with Zeiss, Mitutoyo, or Hexagon CMMs.
• Prior experience leading a CMM/metrology team or quality inspection group.
• Knowledge of casting defects, machining tolerances, and metallurgical properties of aluminum alloys.
• Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification a plus.

Physical Requirements:
• Manufacturing environment with exposure to die casting operations, machining, and inspection labs.
• Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
• Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required during peak production.
