About the RoleĀ 

TheĀ AI and Data-DrivenĀ Path to ApprovalĀ (AIDPA)Ā InitiativeĀ LeadĀ is accountable for the strategy, execution, and value realization ofĀ theĀ AIĀ andĀ DataĀ transformationĀ inĀ development.Ā ThisĀ isĀ a cross-functional Initiative,Ā is part ofĀ Takeda’s R&DĀ of the FutureĀ program,Ā and aims toĀ reimagine the drug development paradigm through building an interoperable, scalable, and future-ready data and technology landscape for R&D.Ā TheĀ objectiveĀ is toĀ trulyĀ reimagineĀ drug development andĀ driveĀ tangible value in accelerated timelines, increased quality, and improved efficiencies. The roleĀ requires a visionary, ambitious thinker who canĀ deconstruct processes of todayĀ to reinvent the future.Ā

This roleĀ is also accountable toĀ integrate withĀ other R&D of the Future Initiatives,Ā other cross-functionalĀ transformations,Ā such asĀ R&D’s Global Capability Model (GCM) transformation, and other functional transformations within Global Regulatory Affairs.Ā This includes beingĀ accountable for integrating the AIDPA strategy and execution withĀ Data and Technology Initiatives within R&D of the Future, such asĀ developing the R&D business priorities that will inform the data and tech strategic priorities.Ā

How you will contributeĀ 

The roleĀ operatesĀ as the cross‑R&D point of accountability forĀ AIDPAĀ strategy, integration, and delivery. It provides a strong central voice to align leadersĀ and manage interdependencies,Ā roadblocks, and trade-off decisions. This leader will work to hold R&DĀ leadership accountable forĀ decision-making andĀ value realizationĀ andĀ toĀ hold teams accountable for delivery.Ā 

This position reports toĀ Chief Regulatory OfficerĀ and partners closely withĀ the Head of R&D of the Future,Ā other R&D of the Future Initiatives,Ā leaders of R&D functions,Ā data and technology teams, and enterprise stakeholders to ensure theĀ initiative vision translates intoĀ embedded AI/automationĀ and redesigned processes that drive value for R&D.Ā Ā

Key Responsibilities:

AIDPA InitiativeĀ Strategy, Outcomes, and Value RealizationĀ 

  • Own AIDPAĀ iInitiative strategy,Ā including ambition, outcomes, and KPI framework, serving as guiding central voice that enables workstreams to execute.Ā 

  • Ensure the AIDPA vision is translated intoĀ actionableĀ use casesĀ and redesignedĀ ways of working,Ā withĀ definedĀ milestonesĀ andĀ measurable impact.Ā Ā 

  • Drive value realizationĀ and sustain momentumĀ for AIDPA,Ā including leadership accountability, business case development,Ā ongoing ROI discipline, and visibilityĀ to transparent status and performance.Ā 

  • Drive senior stakeholders to be accountable for decisions,Ā commitments, and outcomes across the AIDPA portfolio.Ā 

InitiativeĀ Management, Use Case Delivery, Process TransformationĀ 

  • Establish agile, fit-for-purpose decision pathways, aligned with R&D of the Future processes, to streamline decision-making and ensureĀ agility andĀ forwardĀ progress.Ā 

  • CoordinateĀ acrossĀ workstreams, provide leadership visibility to progress and milestones,Ā andĀ facilitateĀ prioritization, sequencing, and trade-off discussions.Ā 

  • Evolve agile ways of working toĀ support AIDPA evolution over timeĀ to be future-ready forĀ changing technology and R&D landscapes.Ā 

Integration across AIDPA Workstreams andĀ theĀ R&D of the Future ProgramĀ Ā 

  • Spearhead cross-workstreamĀ connectivityĀ toĀ manage interdependencies, ensure integrated execution strategyĀ where applicable, and maximize delivery momentum.Ā 

  • Enable transparent communication across workstreams for visibility to coordinate, share learnings, avoid duplication, and trackĀ jointĀ value realization.Ā Ā 

  • CoordinateĀ AIDPA input into end-to-end lean processĀ redesignĀ incorporating technology, to improve cycle time, quality, compliance, and productivity.Ā 

ChangeĀ Leadership,Ā Communications,Ā AdoptionĀ 

  • Champion adoption and leadership endorsement ofĀ newĀ technologiesĀ andĀ ways of working.Ā 

  • Influence development ofĀ AIDPAĀ messagingĀ and communications to articulate strategy, progress, decisions, and realized value.Ā 

  • Partner with R&D of the Future central team, enterprise transformation teams, and communications teams to embed AIDPA into broader R&D transformation narratives.Ā

Minimum Requirements / QualificationsĀ 

Required:Ā 

  • 12Ā years of leadership experience across R&D functionsĀ 

  • Demonstrated ability to make key program decisions, hold partners accountable, andĀ buildĀ trust and influence across R&D functions.Ā 

  • ExperienceĀ leadingĀ complex, multi-workstreamĀ portfolios requiring sequencing, prioritization, and trade-off management across competing demands.Ā 

  • ProvenĀ success leading enterprise-scale, cross-functional transformations withĀ measurableĀ value realization.Ā 

Preferred:Ā 

  • DeepĀ strategic and domainĀ expertiseĀ inĀ Research & DevelopmentĀ and data/digital/AIĀ fluencyĀ in an R&D context.Ā 

  • Experience integrating Data/Technology foundations into business process optimizationĀ and reimagined ways of working.Ā 

  • PreviousĀ partnership with data and technology organizations to deliver scalable solutions.Ā 

  • Knowledge and experience with agile ways of working.Ā 

  • Advanced degreeĀ (PhD, MBA, etc.) or equivalent.Ā

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$212,000.00 - $333,190.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.Ā 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
