Map what matters. Help keep Carmel moving.
Great streets start with smart planning, reliable information, and a team that puts it all to work. The City of Carmel’s Street Department is seeking a GIS Analyst to connect mapping, infrastructure data, and technology with the daily work of maintaining our streets and stormwater systems.
From building maps that help field crews locate assets to creating dashboards that show how maintenance and repairs are progressing, your work will directly support the people and services that keep Carmel moving.
What You’ll Do
- Design and maintain geospatial databases, create maps and spatial analyses, and build ArcGIS Online and Portal applications for field crews and department leadership.
- Administer asset management software such as Cityworks or Trimble Unity and track maintenance, inspections, and lifecycle data for street and stormwater infrastructure.
- Collect high-accuracy data using Trimble GNSS equipment, verify asset locations and conditions in the field, and update GIS records using as-built information from engineering plans and contractor submissions.
- Use Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, programming languages, and APIs to build reports and dashboards, automate workflows, and connect systems.
- Help Street Department staff troubleshoot hardware and software, deploy and maintain computers and mobile devices, and manage Microsoft 365 resources, including SharePoint and Teams.
- Train staff to use mobile data collection tools and follow best practices in the field.
What You Bring
- Proficiency with Esri software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Knowledge of geography, cartography, municipal street infrastructure, asset management, and public works operations.
- Experience with high-accuracy GPS data collection and familiarity with Cityworks, Trimble Unity, or similar asset management systems.
- Ability to analyze and maintain accurate infrastructure data and develop GIS databases, interactive maps, dashboards, and reports.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, including SharePoint, Teams, and Power Platform tools, and the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to staff, leadership, contractors, and the public while managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to drive throughout the service area, perform moderate physical activity, lift or move items up to 50 pounds, and respond to after-hours callouts for emergencies or critical system failures.
- Knowledge of programming languages and APIs is preferred.
What You Need
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, database design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid Indiana driver’s license that must be maintained throughout employment.
- Preferred experience: Three to five years of full-time GIS mapping experience.
