ZR_268_Senior Engineer - Java

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our Development team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting scalable banking and payment solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products. The candidate should have strong expertise in Java-based backend development, API integrations, micro services architecture, and financial services platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for the Passport platform.
  
• Develop and enhance microservices-based applications following domain-driven design and industry best practices.
  
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, Business Analysts, and QA teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  
• Design and implement secure integrations with third-party vendors, banking partners, payment processors, and internal platforms.
  
• Participate in architecture reviews and contribute to long-term technology strategy and roadmap planning.
  
• Drive application modernization initiatives, including cloud adoption, framework upgrades, and infrastructure migrations.
  
• Optimize application performance, scalability, availability, and resiliency through proactive monitoring and tuning.
  
• Perform code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards, security guidelines, and engineering best practices.
  
• Mentor and guide junior engineers through technical leadership, knowledge sharing, and career development.
  
• Analyse and resolve complex production issues, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventive measures.
  
• Support production releases and participate in on-call or incident response activities as needed.
  
• Develop automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure software quality and reduce production defects.
  
• Ensure compliance with security standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies, including PCI DSS and data protection standards.
  
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting capabilities.
  
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve engineering efficiency and platform capabilities.
  
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  
• Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, API specifications, and operational run-books.
  
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to support product launches, feature roll-outs, and customer implementations.
  

Requirements

Technical Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java.
  
• Strong experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring Framework.
  
• Expertise in designing and developing RESTful APIs and Micro services.
  
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and clean code practices.
  
• Experience with databases such as MySQL and MongoDB.
  
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms such as Kafka.
  
• Knowledge of Docker and containerized application deployment.
  
• Experience with source control systems such as Git and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  
• Strong understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, OAuth 2.0, and JWT.
  
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting applications in production environments.
  
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
  
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK.
  

Domain Skills

• Experience working with financial services, banking, payment processing, or fintech applications.
  
• Understanding of transaction processing systems and service integrations.
  
• Experience designing and integrating APIs with internal and external partners.
  
• Knowledge of secure data handling and regulatory compliance requirements.
