Job DetailsJob Location: Charlotte , NC 28206Salary Range: $17.00 HourlyROOF ABOVE Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider.  Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time.  Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,200 individuals every day across seven campuses in Charlotte (up to 14 campuses in COVID).  Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.    POSITION SUMMARY   The Basic Services Specialist will provide direct services to neighbors experiencing homelessness at the Day Services Center.   The Basic Services Specialist position will work with a team of volunteers and staff to manage and assist with basic services for neighbors experiencing homelessness. Some of the basic services include assisting with lunch, laundry collection, washing, drying and returning to the guest, assisting with the shower desk, and sorting and/or distribution of mail.  The Basic Services Specialist will kindly greet neighbors at the front door and guide them to service areas as needed.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS   Provide support to community and volunteer groups during activities and special events. Assist with the management of the lunch line. Receive donations Enter all services provided into the database (HMIS). Using de-escalation skills intervene when necessary if a situation arises between two neighbors or between neighbors and volunteers or staff.  Communicate any concerns about neighbors to supervisor.  Participate in staff training and development activities as directed. Perform other duties as assigned Deep commitment to Roof Above core values QualificationsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED High school diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s degree preferred and a minimum of one year of relatable experience, or a combination of relevant experience and/or education. Prior experience working with homeless populations and experience working in a homeless shelter are preferred. Knowledge of issues related to homelessness; effective intervention techniques; and teamwork. Skill required to: plan and carry out shift activities; communicate effectively orally and in writing; interact appropriately with service partners, volunteers, visitors, and neighbors.   PROGRAM OVERVIEW     WORKING ENVIRONMENT   This position will be scheduled to work on weekends and possible holidays.  This position will also require work in a fast-paced environment with diverse individuals including persons with mental illness and substance use issues.
