Job Description

Position Overview

Invenergy is hiring an Operations Engineer to serve at an Inverter Subject Matter expect. In this capacity, you will be responsible for providing and improving Invenergy’s technical expertise of its fleet of operating inverters in order to maximize the performance and reliability of its solar and storage assets.

This position is on-site at Invenergy's office in downtown Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for the operational issues of the Invenergy utility-scale solar and storage fleet inverters.

  • Collaborate with cross functional groups to resolve performance issues (Control Center, SCADA, on-site technicians, EHS, other operations engineers)

  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve equipment reliability and performance issues to maximize fleet inverter performance by analyzing parts usage, inspection results, and SCADA data to gain operational insights.

  • Lead root cause investigations and analysis

  • Assess damage to inverter components, categorize severity, and provide repair or troubleshooting dispositions

  • Track inverter damages, repair status, and use data for failure forecasting

  • Develop capabilities of in-house repair and troubleshooting teams

  • Interface with equipment manufacturers to resolve technical issues and develop best operating practices. 

  • Develop procedures and technical documentation regarding the safe and efficient operation of inverters.

  • Evaluate electrical engineering drawings and arc flash studies associated with photovoltaic systems and their applications for operations at current and future projects.

  • Lead pilot projects to evaluate new equipment, tools, or processes

  • Support the end-of-warranty inverter inspections

  • Work with Invenergy’s performance analytics team to develop new monitoring strategies and predictive analytics for inverters.

  • Some travel is required (<20%) and moderate field work may be required

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with strong electrical experience, or similar degree.

  • 2-4+ years of experience in engineering, systems integration, or technical support roles, preferably with 1-3+ years of directly relevant experience or Advanced Degree.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Problem solving and critical thinking

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools

  • Ability to independently manage projects and drive initiatives

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with PV or BESS Systems

  • Degree concentration in Power Systems or Renewable Energy Systems

  • Understanding of Electrical Safety Practices

  • Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, ASCE and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes.

  • Understanding of Electrical Safety Practices

  • Experience with HV/MV electrical infrastructure

  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) Software

  • Experience with Data Analysis and Visualization tools (PowerBI, PI Data Historian, Python, etc.)

Base Pay

$90,000.00 - $110,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 15%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
