Job Summary:


The Tool and Die Maker will build dies from concept and strip layout drawings, efficiently plan work sequence, read and understand design drawings, and assist with die tryout and part inspection.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes blueprints, determines materials required, and machines various pieces of material and components in order to make, modify, or repair tools, dies, etc.
  • Tries out new tooling or production equipment and reworks and modifies tooling until an acceptable part is produced from specified material.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances using measuring instruments such as dial indicators, gauges, blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers.
  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Assists in and/or works with other trades as directed per work order or management directive.
  • Operates machinery in a safe manner.
  • Maintains 6S (sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain, safety) standards in all work stations.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic math skills (ex. addition, subtraction, multiplication, fraction/decimal equivalents).
  • Mechanical inclination.
  • Self-starter with strong personal initiative.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker.
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing production dies.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with ProtoTRAK programming on knee and bed mills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: noise, dust, dirt, and mobile equipment.
  • Routine, repetitive lifting up to 35 lbs., occasional, heavy lifting, and pushing / pulling 10 lbs. regularly, 1 to 10 hours per day.
  • Any combination of standing, bending, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, feeling, and walking 8 to 10 hours per day.
  • Ability to work up to 8-10 hour shifts and overtime as required by the work.
  • Use of all limbs, dexterous and steady use of hands and arms for long periods of time.
  • Simultaneous mental and muscular coordination, visual and audio awareness of surrounding area.
