Comfort Systems USA Ohio is expanding our Building Automation & Controls Team in Cincinnati and is seeking a Building Automation Controls Engineer with hands-on experience in commercial Building Automation Systems (BAS), DDC controls, and HVAC systems.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on the programming, integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of building automation systems. You'll work on a variety of commercial, healthcare, education, and industrial facilities while solving complex controls challenges and helping deliver reliable, high-performing building systems.

Experience with Tridium Niagara AX/N4 is strongly preferred. We also welcome experienced BAS professionals who have worked with other commercial building automation platforms and have a strong foundation in HVAC controls, DDC programming, system integration, and commissioning.

This position is focused specifically on commercial Building Automation Systems and HVAC controls rather than traditional manufacturing automation, robotics, or PLC-only programming.

This position is 100% on-site in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

What You'll Do

• Develop, configure, and program Building Automation Systems, including control logic, graphics, alarms, trends, schedules, histories, dashboards, points, and system integrations.

• Program and configure Tridium Niagara AX/N4 systems and stations based on project requirements and experience level.

• Develop and program Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems for commercial HVAC applications.

• Interpret and implement HVAC sequences of operation, control drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, and project documentation.

• Support system architecture, point lists, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and project submittals.

• Integrate BAS systems, HVAC equipment, and third-party systems using BACnet, Modbus, and other open communication protocols.

• Perform system startup, commissioning, functional testing, troubleshooting, and optimization.

• Work with commercial HVAC equipment and systems, including RTUs, AHUs, VAVs, boilers, chillers, pumps, chilled water systems, and central plant controls.

• Collaborate with project managers, field technicians, contractors, and customers throughout project execution.

• Provide technical troubleshooting support and assist with customer and facility staff training.

• Maintain accurate system backups, as-built drawings, programming records, and project closeout documentation.

What We're Looking For

• Hands-on experience with commercial Building Automation Systems (BAS/DDC) and HVAC controls.

• Experience programming, configuring, commissioning, integrating, or troubleshooting BAS/DDC systems.

• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, control strategies, and sequences of operation.

• Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, or other building automation communication protocols.

• Ability to interpret control sequences, drawings, specifications, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.

• Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work effectively with project managers, field technicians, contractors, customers, and other project stakeholders.

• Bachelor's or associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent directly relevant experience.

Experience That Will Help You Stand Out

• Hands-on experience with Tridium Niagara AX/N4, including station programming, logic, graphics, alarms, dashboards, and system integrations.

• Tridium Niagara N4 certification.

• Experience with commercial BAS platforms such as Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens, Honeywell, Distech Controls, Automated Logic, or similar systems.

• Experience with chilled water systems, boiler plants, central plant controls, or other complex HVAC sequences.

• Experience integrating lighting, security, access control, energy management systems, meters, or IP-based building systems.

• Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, EcoStruxure, or similar technical tools and BAS platforms.

You do not need to have spent your entire career working exclusively with Tridium Niagara to be considered. If you have strong commercial BAS/DDC experience, understand HVAC systems and sequences of operation, and have hands-on programming, integration, or commissioning experience, we'd like to hear from you.

Candidates whose experience is primarily in industrial manufacturing automation, PLC programming, robotics, conveyor systems, or SCADA without commercial BAS/HVAC controls experience may not be the right fit for this particular position.
