Summary of role- DevOps Engineer

A DevOps Engineer is responsible for bridging the gap between software development and IT operations by automating, streamlining, and improving the software delivery lifecycle. They design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, manage cloud infrastructure, monitor system performance, and ensure application reliability, scalability, and security. DevOps Engineers collaborate closely with development, testing, and operations teams to enable faster deployments, reduce downtime, and enhance overall system efficiency through automation and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain procedures to comply with security policies and IT best practices
  • Develop and maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures
  • Monitor systems via applications, log files, Elk/OpenSearch and sanity checks
  • Actively work on building and migrating PayFast to Kubernetes.
  • Maintain our configuration and build management systems
  • Database maintenance and implementations
  • Serve as an escalation point to resolve problems in Servers and users' environment
  • Work closely with technical team members (cultural fit)
  • Must be able to troubleshoot complex issues quickly and effectively
  • Research and evaluation of new technologies for our environment
  • CI, Testing and release management
  • Firewall Administration
  • Security and incident response
  • Patch management
  • Agile working methods, agile planning, time management and planning/prioritisation skills


Requirements

Requirements:
  • Matric Certification and a Bachelors (RHCE / ISO 27001/PCI) is a plus but not required
  • High level of proficiency in Linux based OS
  • Cloud Infrastructure (AWS) Associated Certified is a must have
  • Containers (Docker + Kubernetes)
  • Pipelines (Jenkins/Gitlab Ci)
  • Proficiency in a scripting language and application language: Bash, Python, PHP, Perl, Java, Go
  • Proven IaC experience in one of: SaltStack, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Teraform
  • Web Servers (Apache, Nginx, fpm, node)
  • Load Balancers Experience
  • Knowledge of Database technologies: AWS RDS (especially Maria and MySQL)
  • NoSql DBs,pub/sub and Key/Value stores: Redis/mongo
  • Replication technologies
  • Experience in Networking: OSI, (AWS TGW and basic on prem OSI model)
  • Queues – Rabbit, MQ
