Job Description:

The Video Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, maintenance, and optimization of the department's safety and security camera systems and supporting network infrastructure. This position ensures reliable, secure, and high-quality video capture, storage, and retrieval to support law enforcement operations, investigations, and public safety initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, and maintain the department's CCTV and IP-based camera systems, including servers, storage arrays, and network devices.
  • Manage video management software (VMS) platforms, ensuring optimal uptime, performance, and integration with other law enforcement systems.
  • Retrieve, export, and archive video footage as required for investigative and evidentiary purposes while maintaining proper chain of custody.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot camera connectivity, server performance, and network bandwidth issues across the surveillance environment.
  • Plan and implement system upgrades, patches, and improvements to enhance performance, scalability, and cybersecurity.
  • Collaborate with IT, public safety, and facilities teams to design and deploy new video solutions and camera expansions.
  • Maintain documentation of system architecture, configurations, and maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with data retention, evidence handling, and privacy regulations.
  • Provide technical support and training to law enforcement staff and investigators on system use and video retrieval procedures.
  • Conduct performance analysis and recommend hardware or software improvements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience supporting IP-based video surveillance systems, networking, or related IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with Video Management Systems (e.g., Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Layer 2/3 networking, VLANs, PoE, and IP camera configuration.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server environments and network storage technologies (NAS, SAN).
  • Experience working in law enforcement, government, or security environments preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to security protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with law enforcement personnel.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information.
