COOK- PART TIME

Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Cook to join our culinary team at [Nursing Home Name]. The ideal candidate will have a passion for preparing nutritious, tasty meals for our residents while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized kitchen. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality meals that cater to the specific dietary needs and preferences of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook nutritious meals according to the daily menu, ensuring meals meet nutritional requirements and resident preferences.

Follow specific dietary guidelines for residents with special dietary needs, such as low-sodium, diabetic, or pureed diets.

Assist in menu planning, ensuring meals are varied, appealing, and meet the dietary needs of elderly residents.

Maintain a clean and organized kitchen by following all health and safety standards, including proper food storage, sanitation, and handling procedures.

Ensure proper portion control and food safety procedures are followed to minimize waste and ensure safe food handling.

Assist in inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and storing food supplies.

Work closely with the nursing and dietary staff to address any specific dietary needs of residents.

Adhere to dietary restrictions and cultural preferences as requested by residents or family members.

Participate in the preparation and presentation of food for special events or celebrations.

Maintain records related to food preparation, food temperatures, and cleaning logs as required by state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting (nursing home, hospital, etc.).

Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, with a focus on serving elderly populations.

Ability to work with special diets and accommodate specific health-related dietary needs.

Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively.

High school diploma or equivalent; formal culinary training or certification is a plus.

Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in cooking for elderly or special needs populations.

Knowledge of nutritional requirements for older adults.

Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Working Conditions:

Part-time- 24hrs/week includes every other weekend

Flexible scheduling may be required to meet the needs of the nursing home.

Work in a well-equipped kitchen with appropriate safety protocols in place.
