Shift: Days

Hours per biweekly pay period: 0

Position Summary:  Responsible for sterilizing and ensuring proper care of instruments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe work environment
  2. Adheres to sterilization process policies and procedures
  3. Cleans each item according to instructions
  4. Determines whether each instrument is in good working condition
  5. Sorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established procedure
  6. Wraps trays and individual items according to procedure
  7. Accurately labels each item
  8. Correctly operates cleaning, sterilization, and other processing equipment
  9. Properly documents sterilization process
  10. Performs required testing on all sterilization equipment
  11. Monitors and maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing area
  12. Performs other related job duties as requested.


Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Six months work experience in a Sterile Processing Department or as a Surgical Scrub Technician OR completion of a post-secondary level course in Sterile Processing  
  • Certification as a sterile processing technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management  (IAHCSMM)

Preferred: 

  • Ambulatory Surgical Center experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers
