POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Finisher to take the lead on finishing cabinetry and millwork projects. This role goes beyond prep and staining; the Finisher is responsible for spray application of lacquers, conversion varnishes, and specialty coatings, color matching to design specifications, and setting the standard of quality on the shop floor. The Finisher works alongside the Finishing Assistant(s), setting the pace and sharing techniques as the most experienced hand in the finishing area.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Full-time, Monday–Friday (7:30am–5:00pm)
- Shop environment (noise, dust, and equipment, PPE and respirator use required)
- Benefits available after probation
- Wage: Negotiable based on experience
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spray Finishing: Apply lacquers, conversion varnishes, catalyzed finishes, and other specialty coatings using spray equipment to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish on cabinetry and millwork.
- Color Matching & Mixing: Mix, tint, and match stains, toners, and topcoats to sample boards and design specifications.
- Surface Preparation & Staining: Sand, prepare, clean, and inspect raw wood components, and apply stains and sealers, ensuring proper technique and consistency across the shop.
- Wood Repair: Identify and repair imperfections such as knots, cracks, and dents using fillers, putty, and touch-up techniques.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished pieces against company standards and design specs, catching and correcting issues before they move forward.
- Equipment & Booth Maintenance: Maintain spray guns, booths, and finishing equipment, keeping the spray booth clean and in proper working order.
- Team Guidance: Set the pace in the finishing area, share techniques with the Finishing Assistant(s), and help train less experienced staff.
- Scheduling: Prioritize and sequence finishing work to meet production deadlines.
- Safety: Follow and model safety procedures, including proper PPE, respirator, and ventilation practices for spray work.
- Assist with other shop duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience of hands-on spray finishing experience, ideally in cabinetry, millwork, or woodworking
- Strong knowledge of stains, sealers, lacquers, conversion varnishes, and color matching
- Sharp eye for detail and consistency in finish quality
- Comfortable mentoring and guiding less experienced team members
- Ability to work independently and keep the finishing area running smoothly
- Physically able to stand, lift, and perform repetitive tasks
