POSITION SUMMARY
Â
Under the general direction of the Chief Chemist, this position will conduct laboratory analysis, instrument maintenance, instrument calibration and QA/QC compliance on the feedstock and products associated with a complex nitrogen fertilizer facility. The incumbent will review analytical data and provide technical support to the production laboratory. This is a full-time day shift position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor of Science Degree required in either Chemistry (preferred) or related science field

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Â
- 5+ years' experience in a chemical plant or refining laboratory preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using laboratory database systems and/or instrument operating software preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in a laboratory environment and compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety policies
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory testing equipment including Gas Chromatography, Ion Chromatography, X-Ray spectrometers and various other laboratory testing equipment
- Proficiency with Word and Excel is required
- Must have the ability to analyze data and provide status reports
- Good problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills; both written and oral
- Ability to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the business and address unexpected issues
- Fluent in English, both oral and written required

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Â
- Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
- Perform chemical analysis and quality control testing in the Lab using accepted, published procedures along with in-house methods
- Perform calibrations and standardizations to maintain quality in test results
- Maintain the QA/QC program, complete quality investigations as needed, as well as any reports and recordkeeping needed to validate sample results
- Maintain product specifications and purchase material specifications
- Perform special studies to support Operations and Process Engineers troubleshooting production problems
- Develop ability to maintain lab electronic reporting system and lab equipment repairs
- Provide support to ensure compliant operations required
- May perform non-routine physical and chemical testing of products and processing materials
- Interact with Supervisors, Engineers or Operators to help troubleshoot process problems
- Adhere to safe work practices
